We've just came back from a week holidays in Casa San Rocco just outskirts of Lucca town in Tuscany.
Apartments we were staying in (Arancio and Limonia) were just great. Limonia is self contained building (studio) with en-suite shower room, barbecue, kitchen unit, air conditioning, access to barbeque and roof top balcony. Arancio is an apartment with generous living room (with a sit-bed), air conditioning, double bedroom, kitchen unit and rather large bathroom. This room was a part of main house with charming periodic features like internal water pump (draining refreshing water from 200 years old well below the apartment).
Daniela (owner of the house) was ever so helpful when arranging the stay as well as during the holiday.
Casa san Rocco is located just off the main road between Lucca (about 3km) and Pisa (about 25) km which makes it ideal place to access either of these towns.
If and when needed to buy some groceries or other basics (apartments are rented on self-catering basis), access to supermarkets is really easy. In Lucca there is a Penny Market – maybe 3,5 km away from the apartments. There are Lidl and Careefour as well somewhere in Lucca, but we didn’t get chance to pop in there on our stay. When going to Pisa there is really big Carefourr right on the way in.
Pool area and the pool itself were really clean and accessible 24/7. There were plenty of accessories for children to play with as well as sun beds for us to ‘burn our skins on’.
Please be aware that this is not a hotel, so don’t expect your towels to be changed or beds done every day. Casa San Rocco is superior guest house with homely atmosphere and great Tuscanian views all around.
Two minor disadvantages:
- The proximity of the main road made the noise of the traffic over nights a bit annoying in Limonia apartment.
- Noise of air conditioning was quite substantial at points when asleep.
