Description: Osteria Pep is a wonderful little bistro minutes away from San Lorenzo central market in Florence. This unassuming Italian restaurant exudes warmth from the friendly welcome, to the traditional Tuscan wood furniture. The atmosphere at Osteria Pepo is different, depending on whether you visit the restaurant by day or night. Lunchtimes are typically rustic; tables are set with placemats. Come evening, a refined romance fills the air as tablecloths are laid and candles lit. Worthy of being described as home cooking, the restaurant Osteria Pepo menu scores highly for its Tuscan appetisers such as marinated herring. Follow with a traditional soup, or a meat dish from the From the casserole or From the frying pan sections. Bellissimo desserts are made every day perfect with a glass of sweet Vin Santo.

“We ate here 3 times during our one week trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This was my daughter's fav little bistro when she was in Florence on her honeymoon. On this return trip with the whole family we enjoyed two lunches and one birthday celebration dinner there.

The restaurant exudes warmth and serves traditional Tuscan fare like spaghetti a vongole (to die for!), bistecca (1500 grams of very rare beef!), and tripe; all in a casual atmosphere without pretention.

The house chianti is pretty decent as are the prices.

“We could have eaten here every night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We ate here twice during our stay in Florence. . . both times were spectacular! The first time we had the tomato and bread soup, parpadelle with wild boar ragu and I had chunks of beef with a wine sauce. The second time we ate there we had the ribollita and shared the bistecca fiorentine (big-huge chunk of steak). Both meals were fantastic and the service was great.

Visited this restaurant because of the reviews we read on tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed... one of the finest meals we have had on our 2 week Italy holiday. The spaghetti de pepo was simply divine, and the porcini risotto was comfort food on a whole new level. The roasted potatoes were like going home but the highlight came at the end of the meal with a chocolate souffle to die for. Thinking about going back tonight for the same. Worth a visit, we don't understand what this is doing down in the 60s!

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Looking back at our trip to Florence this was by far our best dining experience.

The menu selection was small but still had enough variety. I usually take this as a good sign that a few things are concentrated on and done well. I was not disappointed and had a really good meal.

This restaurant is the typical small Italian restaurant that you would like to find. Its run in a relaxed way by people who are interested in what they are doing. The décor and menu style was modern with a very Italian feel.

“Authentic and absolutely delicious from start to finish!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Thanks to Tripadvisor I found Pepo', a charming osteria near the San Lorenzo market. We started with fried artichokes which were perfect, then the ribollita, tender little gnocchi with a gorgonzola sauce sprinkled with fresh arugula, and a truly magnificent dish of pork with a truffle cream sauce and fabulous roasted potatoes. A bottle of wonderful Rosso di Montepulciano was only 18 euros, and we ended with a yummy panna cotta dribbled with berry sauce. YUM! Will go back again and tell my friends about it too. Really terrific vibe among the staff too, and a clean, crisp yet homey feel. Everyone seems to inhale the smell of a sizzling Fiorentina beefsteak as it's brought to the table.
