“VERY DISAPPOINTED with accommodations!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Our first disappointment was the musty/chemical smell in the hallway leading to room. Once in the room, the plastic furniture reminded me of a Walmart special. The windows had thick burgundy duck cloth on them hiding a view of construction materials and laundry hanging outside. The room was clean, but very dark and dreary. The shower was so small I could barely fit in it and I am only a size 4. The bed was hard as a rock. The bedding was ugly and plain. I couldn't imagine spending three nights here.

We asked to be moved to another room and the hotel accommodated us. It was marginally better in that it was larger and didn't smell, but was still very dreary and the furniture was extremely outdated. The bed was not comfortable and the shower was very small. Towels were thin and small.

They claim to have 'foot massagers'...turns out they are old versions of the plug in devices sold in Brookstone 10 years ago.

Fortunately we had a marvelous travel agent that was able to get us a refund after only one night at Villa Aurea and we moved to the hotel Relais Borgo Scopeto in Sienna where we were VERY pleasantly surprised. That was truly a much better choice with a much friendlier staff and much nicer rooms. The food was much better, too. Views at the Relais Borgo Scopeto were amazing and the grounds were wonderful.

I would not recommend Villa Aurea at any price.

“Tuscan sunset from your window!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Villa Aurea is a wonderful choice for those who are are looking for special and relaxing moments in Tuscany. We stayed there for 2 nights in September/2011 and from the window of our room we could appreciate the astonishing Tuscan sunset. After such breathtaking experiencing we had dinner in the hotel at the terrace. Lovely! Next day, we enjoyed the swimming pool before going around Cortona (charming!). The hotel is very clean and service is very kind. Very good cost x benefit!

Room Tip: I booked the most simple room (Comfort) which is located in the main house. I suppose rooms with a f...

“Hotel with perfect service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed in this hotel during the second week of july 2011. The rooms were very clean and the service in the hotel as well of the restaurant was really very good. There is a nice swimming pool and garden. We enjoyed our holidays there very much.

“Nice spa-hotel in beautiful garden, just outside Cortona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We stayed 4 nights in June. Enjoyed the friendly service, great food (breakfast-buffet and dinner), nice swimmingpool in garden, large/clean room (Smeraldo) with separate livingroom. Need a car to visit the lovely cities of Cortona, Perugia, Siena, Pienza and Montepulciano.

“Under the Tuscan Sun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel for 3 nights in June 2011. The hotel is situated around the corner from the villa that was the film set for Under the Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane - well worth watching, after which you must visit Cortona and stay at Villa Aurea.

I cannot compliment the staff enough, they were extrememly friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. In particular the reception staff were very helpful. The hotel was, in my mind, a typical tuscan retreat with all the convenience of modern living, boasting many facilities such as swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam room and a very tranquil relaxation room.

The hotel has a lovely breakfast and a nice restaurant, though Cortona at the top of the hill has very nice restaurants, antique shops, bars and cafes. Grab a bite to eat at Bar 500, where the owner well make you very welcome.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel so much that I am booking up to go back in the next couple of months.
