“Solves the Syracuse parking problems”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

If you’re travelling by car and you want the option of staying outside Syracuse then Principe di Fitalia could be your answer. Mind you, it’s hard to find so you’ll need to feed the address into your Tom-Tom or Garmin device. However, the fact it’s hard to find is really half the charm because it means you’re in the countryside some 3 miles away from the centre of Syracuse. That distance immediately solves any problems in overnight car parking in downtown Syracuse plus you get a view of fields and trees rather than just a view of the surrounding buildings which you’d tend to get from a hotel in the claustrophobic centre of town. Plus out here at Principe you have the benefit of a pool and garden and you don’t get to pay inflated tourist city centre prices.

Rooms start at 70 Euros per night (low season rate) but, thinking such budget prices could translate into rather plain simple rooms, I boldly decided to book a “superior room with balcony” at 140 Euros. Good move because, given the hotel happened to be quiet, we got upgraded to room 23. Mmm – good upgrade because room 23 was the honeymoon suite. Not only did it have a large balcony but there was a stairway leading up to the roof and another balcony – this one totally private.

Now this is no cutting edge ultra modern boutique hotel with the latest fashions in furnishings – in fact the furnishing were modest and rather old but nevertheless comfortable. Principe just had a nice friendly “feel” to it rather like an old pair of your favourite shoes. We were looked after superbly by our hosts and Lavinia in particular went out of her way to help.

We ate dinner on site in a pleasant dining room overlooking the gardens – but being out of season the menu was naturally limited although it was all freshly sourced and cost about 90 Euros for 2 with wine.

After also staying in central Syracuse, as well as Principe, next time I would certainly choose this out of town option. However, you definitely need a car and the hotel is tricky to find. While our room was clearly the best in the hotel I suspect some of the more ordinary rooms could be just that - rather ordinary. However, I found the location attractive and the hotel restful. Finally, car parking was not an issue and there was free wifi although reception was limited to certain parts of the hotel.

“Disappointed - we didn't get to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel looked lovely, but when we arrived, our passports were taken for check-in, and then we were told there was a problem with the plumbing in our room and we couldn't stay there. The hotel had our mobile numbers but hadn't tried to call us.

They gave us a glass of prosecco whilst trying to find us something else. This gave me the chance to see what I was missing out on and the pool area did look lovely! I asked for a hotel of a similar standard, with a restaurant, bar and pool. So I was pleased when they told us they had found somewhere nearby.

However, when we drove there, we found the replacement hotel was a construction site, with building work going on right next to the pool. I didn't fancy sunbathing next to the builders, listening to the drilling and getting covered in dust!! There was no bar, no restaurant (no other guests?!) and so we returned to the Principe to say that we weren't happy with their selection. They did offer to find us something else but I didn't have much confidence at this stage and so booked it myself through laterooms.

I appreciate that things like plumbing can go wrong, but it wasn't handled very well and wasted 1/2 a day of our holiday.

Dear guests, We are very sorry for what happened in September. Unfortunately, we were fully booked and when the maid came in your room saw that the water was broken and she said that she did not guarantee that she could solve the problem. So to give you the possibility Not to miss a day of holiday we thought to advise you to go to another hotel.
The hotel recommended to you is a four star very similar to ours, we are sorry if there was any work in course.
But we were not aware of it.
Thank you for the praise made to our hotel and we hope to have you as our guests the next time you are in Sicily, if you'll come back i'll do you a very special price.

“Good Hotel, Poor Location”

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Principe di Fitalia during our week driving tour of Sicily. The hotel is located in a remote area about 20 minutes driving time from Siracusa, depending on traffic. Due to road construction near the hotel, it was very difficult to find especially at night.

The hotel room is on the small size with a outdoor sitting area for drinks or coffee. The best decision that we made was to have dinner at the hotel restaurant which proved to be the best meal that we had in Sicily!!!

Other thanthe restaurant, I would not recommend this hotel to leisure travelers desiring to see the sights in Siracusa as it is just too faw away. Business travelers are probably a better group to enjoy the Hotel Principe di Fitalia.

Dear guest
Thank you for your compliments about our kitchen,it is important for us.
We prepare everything with fresh products.
Unfortunately, the room that you have booked was a classic with balcony and it has the size requeste to the european standards.
Our hotel is an historic building some rooms are not so big. But if our guests need a bigger room have only to ask and if we are not fully booked we are very happy to give them an other rooms.
As far as the road it was under construction on october now it has been completed and it's very beautyful and big..
From the new road to reach the historic center of SyracuseOrtigia it 's very simple and it takes only 10 minutes by car.
Ortigia is not the only area to visit in Syracuse, there is the Archaeological Park which is located 5 km from Ortigia and 4 km from our hotel, there are some little towns like Marzamemi, Palazzolo, Noto heritage of 'Unesco , Sortino the town of honey.
And these little towns are accessible from the highway, the entrance of the highway is near the hotel.
Surely our hotel is suitable for stays longer than 2 nights because it better if the guests use our services like pool, whirlpool, sauna, fitness, and anything that can make your holiday a day of total relaxation.

“Far surpassed our expectations!”

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at Hotel Principe di Fitalia. Not only is the property beautiful and well maintained, but it has easy access to Siracusa and the highways. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff was outstanding, extremely hospitable, and became like family to us. The restaurant was no exception, the food was both creative and delicious. The breakfast buffet far surpassed our expectations. We especially thank Lavinia, Marco, Nati, and Letizia for making our stay memorable. We look forward to a return trip.

“Lovely, Memorable and a Very Special Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

My Husband and I stayed here in October, 2011. We expereinced fantastic farm to table food cooked to order. Wonderful breakfast. Gorgeous pool and although their beach club was closed - their driver drove us to the local beach which was beautiful. We were also driven to lovely Ortigia (don't miss it) and the staff was so helpful and accomodating. One night they had Sicilian music and we stayed up late into the eveing enjoying fine food, wine and music by the pool - what could be better. The staff was over-the-top helpful, especially Lavinia, who speaks nearly perfect English and helped us with train tickets, bus tickets, and whatever we needed. But, this place had something special, as well. It is hard to explain in words, but it was a vibe - which was warm, intimate, loving and very memorable. I can recommend this hotel with confidence that you will be pleased you stayed here.
