We booked the hotel at the last minute, and got a good price, it being low season (May). Our room was large, more of a suite really, with a bedroom area and a separate area with a wardrobe & couch. The hotel was quiet while we were there, only ourselves and a handful of other guests seemed to be there. Perhaps because it was quiet, it had a rather dead feel, and reminded us a bit of an old people's home!
LOCATION
The hotel is well hidden away, surrounded by narrow roads. We arrived at the front entrance (on Via Isola) and had to be buzzed through the gates, but after that they asked us to use the rear entrance (on Traversa Tre Case, best approached from Via delle Fornaci to avoid the most narrow roads) which is open until midnight or so. There was plenty of free parking.
DIRTY MINI-BAR
The mini-bar was FILTHY - there was black mould over the drinks and the insides of the fridge. It looked like no-one had opened it in ages, neither guests (who would have complained) nor the cleaners. I complained about it, and it was cleaned somewhat by the that evening, but not thoroughly (as it needed) and some stains still remained on the drinks and insides. None of the mould-covered drinks were replaced as far as I could see, just somewhat cleaned. Needless to say, we did not use the mini-bar!
BEDROOM
The bed was comfy, and we slept well, but the sheets felt damp to the touch, and also clothes that I left out felt somewhat damp the next morning. Maybe this dampness also encouraged the growth of the mould in the mini-bar. There was a safe in the room but it didn't work - the staff tried to fix it, to no avail. So we did without it.
BATHROOM
The shower was really strong, but was missing a shelf for putting toiletries on. The toilet was awkwardly placed, you had to approach it from the side to get on to it! The hand towels weren't normal towels, more like thin 'tea towels', very odd.
DINING
The breakfast was basic, a selection of cold breads, cheese, meats, etc. For dinner, as well as the restaurant in the hotel, there were two restaurants nearby. We ate in one, a casual pizza place (on Via La Maddelena) with a young lively clientele, where the food was good.
POOL
We didn't use the pool, in fact my wife said that she had a close look at it and there were loads of dead insects floating on the surface. Ugh!
WI-FI
Wi-fi was complimentary, but the signal in the room was too weak, and I had to sit outside on the veranda to get a decent signal.
STAFF
The staff spoke good English, and were helpful, though they didn't seem at all surprised or shocked when I showed them the state of the mini-bar.
