“Room felt a bit damp and mini-bar was filthy!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

We booked the hotel at the last minute, and got a good price, it being low season (May). Our room was large, more of a suite really, with a bedroom area and a separate area with a wardrobe & couch. The hotel was quiet while we were there, only ourselves and a handful of other guests seemed to be there. Perhaps because it was quiet, it had a rather dead feel, and reminded us a bit of an old people's home!

LOCATION
The hotel is well hidden away, surrounded by narrow roads. We arrived at the front entrance (on Via Isola) and had to be buzzed through the gates, but after that they asked us to use the rear entrance (on Traversa Tre Case, best approached from Via delle Fornaci to avoid the most narrow roads) which is open until midnight or so. There was plenty of free parking.

DIRTY MINI-BAR
The mini-bar was FILTHY - there was black mould over the drinks and the insides of the fridge. It looked like no-one had opened it in ages, neither guests (who would have complained) nor the cleaners. I complained about it, and it was cleaned somewhat by the that evening, but not thoroughly (as it needed) and some stains still remained on the drinks and insides. None of the mould-covered drinks were replaced as far as I could see, just somewhat cleaned. Needless to say, we did not use the mini-bar!

BEDROOM
The bed was comfy, and we slept well, but the sheets felt damp to the touch, and also clothes that I left out felt somewhat damp the next morning. Maybe this dampness also encouraged the growth of the mould in the mini-bar. There was a safe in the room but it didn't work - the staff tried to fix it, to no avail. So we did without it.

BATHROOM
The shower was really strong, but was missing a shelf for putting toiletries on. The toilet was awkwardly placed, you had to approach it from the side to get on to it! The hand towels weren't normal towels, more like thin 'tea towels', very odd.

DINING
The breakfast was basic, a selection of cold breads, cheese, meats, etc. For dinner, as well as the restaurant in the hotel, there were two restaurants nearby. We ate in one, a casual pizza place (on Via La Maddelena) with a young lively clientele, where the food was good.

POOL
We didn't use the pool, in fact my wife said that she had a close look at it and there were loads of dead insects floating on the surface. Ugh!

WI-FI
Wi-fi was complimentary, but the signal in the room was too weak, and I had to sit outside on the veranda to get a decent signal.

STAFF
The staff spoke good English, and were helpful, though they didn't seem at all surprised or shocked when I showed them the state of the mini-bar.

“Not to bad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We got a good online offer for the property and enjoyed our stay. We had asked for a twin room and that was probably an error, only one bed had a light and none had nightstands. But we did get our own little balcony outside and had a good desk at the entrance as well as an ok bathroom. No flowers or fresh fruit like one Italian comment says. The place itself if great, a very nice garden that explains the name of the property, good swimming pool and a very private feeling to it all. Spa treatments on demand, we didn't try them. We were supposed to get internet in the rooms, but when we were there it only functioned in the reception and the bar. They have a computer to be used by guests in the reception. We ordered dinner the first night, pretty good and a very friendly chef, but maybe a bit expensive for what we got. My macaroni with 4 cheeses was not impressive- overcooked pasta with stringy cheese and lots of whey, but the rest was fine. One of the ladies at the reception was very efficient and gave us all the service we could ask for, but the other one seemed a bit lost- her English was poor and she didn't even know that they had to offer or not. Mosquito bites galore, so be aware- but that would be normal in any similar place. One would need a car to stay there, and there are other restaurants in the area

“Nice and quiet hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

You will be in this hotel like at your own house with nice garden and swimming pool. The no-frills breakfast: fruits, yogurts, coffee, toasts, ham, cheese and different jams. Good service.

“An oasis on a less than relaxing island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

We stayed at Il Parco for a week at the end of October 2009. The hotel has the feel of an English National Trust property - the rooms are elegant with antiques and were warm without heating even with cold evenings. The gardens are beautiful and the hotel's name really does reflect its huge asset.

We could not fault the helpful staff and the quality of the breakfast - however one tiny
point - could we have outside lights on the terraces - the mad English still like to read on cold (18oC) evenings.

The one downside is the location - no close restaurants and a 10 minute DRIVE into Siracusa. I highlight drive because this involves the daily risk to life that comes from getting into a car in Sicily. Everyone jokes about it but the driving everywhere was simply criminal not just bad but criminal.

“Wonderful gem, one of the best in Sicily”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2009

This new 4-star hotel hotel was a stunning villa of 1900, beautifully restored and now offering all comforts needed to tourists, both families and solo travellers, coming to visit the amazing city of Syracuse.
This hotel has only a dozen rooms, so relax and privacy are assured.
The owner is a very nice and elegant solicitor working in Siracusa, and his efficient assistants, Giuseppe and Antonella, look after guests 24 hours a day.
The best features of this hotel are the swimming pool, the lovely garden, and the massage and relaxation area, with many beauty treatments available. I had a head and shoulder massage and it was heaven!
I highly recommend this hotel!!!
