“Location, History and Price ... but not for beach lovers”
As always it`s always easy to write a precis on a hotel if it`s what YOU want yourself - others might not like it because they were looking for a different kind of holiday, BUT, if you are interested in exploring this lovely small city for a couple of days, on foot, then the Hotel Regina Margherita is probably as good as any you would find.
It`s situation right in the centre of the historic district, makes it easy to walk to everywhere that you would want; The restaurants, although I must say that because we went a bit later in the season than when it`s busy, and enjoyed it more for that very reason, some of the restaurants that would have been lovely because of their location, were closed. You pays your money and you takes your choices !
However, also if you are even a slight shopaholic there are plenty of shops of all sorts and particularly fashion and fashion jewellery at not ridiculous prices, that were right up to the minute.
We got on the open topped bus which toured the other areas and included the beach area, which highlighted to me exactly where the beaches were, and I thought the area was superb for sunbathers, although the hotels looked tired, in fact, worn out. I have a dread of everything that walks on more than two legs and I wouldn`t have had a nights sleep in some of the establishments. The same cannot be said of the hotel I am writing about as it was spotlessly clean and kitted out with even a right up to the minute, jacuzzi type shower which was a first.
The hotel staff were as accommodating as they could be in view of the fact that they didn`t speak superb English, but then some English don`t either ! They helped us as much as they could with their limited English and our even more limited Italian - if it`s part of an Italian family you want to experience then probably one of the Penion`s might be better, this would not fit that criteria, but for straightforward extremely good class, but modern accommodation, then this hotel will just tick all your boxes but will not exceed it.
