“Geat camping experience - full board and tents are pitched already. Nice atmosphere.”

We stayed with two adults and 2 teenager 19 year old girl and 16 year old boy

We stayed in Santa Lucia

Tents:
Very spacious. Good wooden beds, electricity, shelves for storage, a broom, chairs, table, a bin. The mattresses are made of foam. . We booked one comfort tent and 1 basic tents (the latter come with mattresses only – no electricity). I would have gone for the comfort plus but they were all booked they are on raised platforms and have a fridge.

Meals:
Mealtimes are breakfast 8-9 am (rolls, cereal, tea, coffee, milk, eggs, salami, cheese, fruits), lunch 1-2 pm (pasta and salad, fruits, fizzy drinks), dinner 8-9 pm (meat/fish, vegetables, salad, rice or potatoes, wine, water, dessert). All meals were actually very good. The cook uses good and fresh ingredients. We all enjoyed the food but a week was enough.

Happy Hour
Happy hour starts at 7 pm – free unlimited drinks for everybody. A very nice opportunity to meet people. Cold water was available at all times

Washing/Toilet houses:
Are cleaned two times a day. Very basic but fine. no problem with hot water

Beach:
The beach is 500m from the campsite through another campsite. It is a beautiful beach. We enrolled for wind surfing and sailing

There were 3 walks on offer
The Fruit Tour is not very demanding (take mosquito repellent), the Berchida/Bernina tour is a bit more demanding but both can be done by anyone really.
The walk on top of Monte Albo (1040 m) is more strenuous and you need hiking boots

There are other activities on offer mountain biking Climbing canyoning
Bikes can be hired next door to the site.

Santa Lucia is a lovely little village with some good resturants and cafes

Recommendations

Do not book activities until you get to the site
Wi fi would be great we spent a lot of money having coffee and ice-cream off site in a wifi cafe which we would have spent on site

Would go with another family

Great value for money in a beautiful spot in Sardinia near Olbia Airport

We stayed with two adults and 3 children between 10 and 14.

There are two campsites:
We stayed in Mandras which is the family campsite.

Tents:
Very spacious. Good wooden beds, electricity, shelves for storage, a broom, chairs, table, a bin. The mattresses are made of foam. We asked for a second layer and then our sleep was fine. We booked one comfort tent and got 2 basic tents for the three children (the latter come with mattresses only – no electricity). I would have gone for the suites as they come with own bathrooms and a veranda but they were fully booked.

Meals:
Mealtimes are breakfast 8-9 am (rolls, cereal, tea, coffee, milk, eggs, salami, cheese, fruits), lunch 1-2 pm (pasta and salad, fruits, fizzy drinks), dinner 8-9 pm (meat/fish, vegetables, salad, rice or potatoes, wine, water, dessert). All meals were actually very good. The cook uses good and fresh ingredients. The children did like the food and so did we.

Downside: The break between lunch and dinner is very long for the children so we fed them on cookies and icecream during the day as they were really hungry in the evenings. It is impossible to find any pizzeria or similar as the Italians hold their siesta and start evening meals very late at night anyway. So the evening meal at 8 pm is quite early in Italian terms…

Bar:
Next to the pool is a nice Happy Hour Bar. Cold water is available at all times here for free, coffees, drinks and ice creams are available during the day. Happy hour starts at 7 pm – free unlimited drinks for everybody. A very nice opportunity to meet people. Nice music and very charming staff at the bar too. We even had live bands playing four times during our stay!

Washing/Toilet houses:
Are cleanded two times a day. Very basic but fine. No toilet seats.

Bus shuttle beach:
There is a bus shuttle to the sandy beach in St. Lucia two times a day. It was often fully booked so one group has to wait until the bus comes back for a second round. Very annoying if you hurry the kids to be punctual and then you have to wait for half an hour until anything happens.

Beach:
Superb! Kanus, snorcheling stuff and other things are lend for free. The water and sand were just great and the whole family loved it.

Bus transfers airports:
Very good buses with air condition. We had very sensible drivers (Mariusz and Schando), absolutely reliable and very welcoming. Perfect.

Hiking tours:
The Fruit Tour is not very demanding (take mosquito repellent), the Berchida/Bernina tour is a bit more demanding but both can be done by anyone really.
The kids were doing the fruit route and enjoyed it. Highlight for people who are into trekking is the tour on top of Monte Albo (1040 m).

Yoga:
Very good and qualified teachers who do lessons at 7 am (near the Mandras beach) and 5.30 pm (in the Mandras pine forest). There is no yoga platform – mats are put on the floor in between the trees. They could really do better here. The teachers were great though.

Atmosphere:
The camp attracts a lot of families from Holland, Belgium, France and Germany (some Italians as well) who could obviously afford better accommodation. We found a lot of likeminded and bright people there who made very good company during our holidays. The whole organisation is run quite well and very responsive. Whenever one asks for anything the response is immediately (we asked for a second mattress and had dietary requirements).
We had four live bands during our ten day stay and danced in the evenings at the pizzeria while most of the children were happily playing football on the tennis court. Great!

Standard:
There is a great team which is highly motivated - you will meet a lot of very likable and friendly people. The campsite lacks management and could easily do better in many aspects – but then it is a nice and friendly spot on Sardinia. We will absolutely be going again.

Tipps:
Bring a hammock – there are only four next to the pool and they are always full.
The second camp run by Amfibietreks is in St. Lucia and focuses on teenagers. The teenage camp is said to be very noisy due to loud music at nights - so be aware which camp you are booking. Sign up for the newsletter on the website to get discounts - we saved several hundreds by this.

“A real find - if your after a chilled relaxing vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

I was recommended the Santa Lucia site by a teenager who had been several years before and loved it. I took my two teenage children without dad and wanted somewhere chilled and easy. Certainly the place to come... Made the mistake of flying to Alghero which is a good two hour drive (they did forget us at the airport - for several hours) Make sure you take direct campsite number with you just in case as it took hours to get hold of someone. Nerves were frayed when we arrived and were wondering what we had done. But got to say after the first day we found out feet and loved it. You do have to walk through another campsite to get to beach but not really a hassle. You also have to walk down the beach to get to the Amfietreks water sports area which is the best place as closer to the village it gets very crowded. There is little shade so make sure you take a brolly/shadecloth as it is very hot! Also take drinks and refreshments as its a pain to have to walk back for the loo etc. The tents are basic and yes I wish they had provided sheets as sleep bags are not necessary mid summer. Also there is no safes on site. Also no cash machines in local village so you have to take monies with you or take a trip further away (make sure you take some for fab ice creams in village). The food was basic and a bit samey but fine. Now the good bit.... we had a great time. The people were very friendly (we were the only English there) but had no problem meeting people. There is plenty of entertainment in the evenings providing your up for it. There is a really communal feel to the place which is lovely and relaxing. The teens met loads and had a great time. I did not feel out of place being a lone parent. We stayed in a a family tent which was ideal. The campsite is set under pine trees which is a relief. I would definately go back flying to Olbia instead. I only wish we had a bit longer and had done some local trips. Apparently the early morning walk is definately worth it. Also the half day snorkelling trip. Definately would recommend.. Ps. do not let your young children walk barefoot on the pine undergrowth especially at night. There is the odd small scorpian that can give you a bit of a nip.

“Unique...”

Amfibietrek is quite a unique experience, but a great one. We booked last minute and so stayed in the small tents, with 3 in a row. They are as basic as it gets and in future I would book one of the bigger family tents with 2 smaller ones, just for the storage shelves alone.
It frustrated me that you have to supply your own bedding, we brought a sheet and light fleece blanket, but along with towels this is a significant contribution to the measly 15k luggage allowance. It is possible to buy these cheaply in the nearest town, which I would do on a repeat visit.
Great atmosphere and a high spot was the way the teens all made friends with French, german, Dutch, Belgian and Finnish friends.
Food is basic as everyone has commented, but I did love the relaxed atmosphere.
The one day team cooking is also a great way to bond.
Be prepared for the late disco they have one night over the weekend!
Showers are adequate.
Santa Lucia beach is beautiful, uncommercialised. The village is small, with a couple of great little restaurants.
Kayak hire no problem.
We ended up not doing other courses due to winds.
Take one of the boat trips down the coast they are stunning.
Washing machine in the opposite campsite.

We hired a car and while not essential if I were to return I would definitely get a car again.

All in all, it is no frills, but considering we got very cheap Ryanair flights it was a great relaxing holiday and as cheap as chips. As long as you are not expecting Eurocamp style luxury you will be fine.

“Hippy camping for the family !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2009

We holidayed here for a fortnight with children aged 6 to 16. We stayed at the Mandras campsite which is more family orientated, the Santa Lucia campsite is more for adults / students / older teens. The campsite was clean and well run, we were picked up and dropped off at the aiport on schedule, shown around on arrival in a very friendly way, the deluxe tent with its own bathroom was well worth the extra cost (tip: they get booked up very early). The meals were basic Italian cooking with pasta / bread/ salad / fruit and did get a little monotonous but were fine so long as you aren't expecting a banquet every night. The site was relatively small and quiet.

Good: very relaxed atmosphere, well organised (except for sailing lessons!), nothing runs out - free drinks throughout 'Happy Hour' - food for those arriving a little later - room for all around the pool. Watersports equipment available on the beach. One of the few 'all inclusive' holidays where they are not constantly trying to find ways to make you spend more money, a good example is the 24 hour supply of ice cold water available to all campers.

Bad: we probably picked the wrong site for our teens but great for younger children. Luckily there were a dozen or so teens there which is apparently not always the case, but many more families with children aged 3-12. The site is a good 10 minute walk from a pebbly beach and a half an hour from a good sandy beach so you really need a car to get about.

Worth knowing: of the 250 on the campsite the majority were Dutch, a large number of Germans and maybe 15% English and other nationalities so don't expect your English children to find other English friends. When we booked it the campsite were very vague about this. All that said our children met some lovely Dutch families who spoke excellent English and the ice was soon broken, particularly on the football pitch. The campsite is run in English so I am puzzled by the lack of Brits and frankly they are missing out.
