“Good value for money!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

As it was very hard to look for a budget hotel in Europe, we tried a B & B accomodation, La Magnolia turned out to be quite good, as it is clean, breakfast is ok, although very simple with toast , coffee and some pastries.....it is like a home away from home , surrounding is ok too, the Filipino staff was also very accomodationg and very helpful...our stay here was really satisfying ......

“Beautifully run B&B, with amazing hospitality!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

On the 4 minute walk from Verona's main train station to the B&B we were a bit nervous, area looked dodgy (too us). We were very mistaken though, it's litterally a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Verona with all the main sites! The staff were excellent and it was very clean! Instead of staying in a busy, expensive hotel we found this hidden gem and made our Verona experience a little more romantic :) We recommended this B&B to our friends and they stayed there too and loved it!

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

The Magnolla and her sister property, the Casanova, where we stayed, are an easy walk from the train station once we had asked a local on the street for directions. We were very pleasantly greeted by a young man from the Philippines, who checked us in. It was a rather lengthy check-in process, as he had to write out all of our information by hand. I was traveling with my husband, and brother and sister-in-law, and the only drawback with check-in was that he could not split the bill.
We were taken to a property, the Casanova, several houses down the street from the Magnolla. Our rooms were great. Very clean and with en suite bathrooms. The rooms and beds were very comfortable.
The back of the property was bordered by train tracks and we rather enjoyed the sounds of the trains. The train traffic did not seem to be heavy during sleeping hours.
Breakfast was self serve and ample. It was a short and easy walk to the city center.
Overall, we were very pleased with our two night stay and would definitely choose this B&B again.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, you might ask for a room on the street side of the house.

“Boutique B & B , Great Location, Wonderful City”

We booked this B&B, but didnt stay at this B&B. La Magnolia must be part of some other places located all on the same street and next to each other, we stayed what I think was Casanova B&B or the bussiness cards on the hall table stated that.

When we arrived we had a nice man greet us and check us in, he offered us something to drink. He told us we won't be in this building but a few doors down the street. He walked us over and explained everything we needed to know about the place and area. It was a walk up and these places had no curb appeal, a bit run down outside needed to be freshened up and gardened, but they where lovely inside.

Our room was Wonderful, Big, Bright, Clean, New, Cold (a/c) and we had a shared bath right outside our door. WiFi worked well and the gentleman explained everything to us we needed. The breakfast room was down the hall and had a lot of snacks, drinks, water, coffee/tea for us to use and have.

Right outside the city walls Verona was a Beautiful city and we enjoyed every moment of it. It's about a 10 min walk to city center with a lot of places to eat , shop on the way.

Some Negatives:
1. Both B&B's face the train tracks from the back of buildings, so if you have a back room like ours the trains are loud and noisy.

2. At check in he extended our check out by 1 hour, this wasnt communicated for the next day when the cleaning man and some other guest service person harrassed us to leave at 10:30 am. This isn't how a place should approach guests, then the man started changing his story that the next guest are to check in at 11am, when that wasn't the case and check in is not till 2pm. He offered for us to sit on a small cigarette infested balcony while the gentleman cleaned the room, which didn't help us at all to be relaxed until we had to leave to the train station. This builing and B&B did not have a living area to relax in like Magnolia had when we checked in. This was Annoying, even so if we didn't extended our check out to ask someone to leave at 10:30am sharp by knocking on the door, and seconds later someone else calling was uncalled for.

Besides these little issues, this was a perfect stay and price for the facilites it offers. I recommend this to anyone visiting Verona. I am sure our issues was just by chance.

“Convenient location, air conditioned rooms, but charmless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

La Magnolia is conveniently located a few minutes’ walk from the main tourist sights of Verona and the air conditioning alone was worth the price of our overnight stay. Except for the August weather, there’s not much warmth about the place, however. Apart from the main reception area, the other areas of the house were furnished with Ikea basics, with no pictures on the wall or other decoration. It felt a bit like a college dorm room before term starts. The bathroom was nice, but was shared with other guests, which might not suit all travellers. The house is only a few yards away from railroad tracks and trains thundered past every five minutes in the morning, though I didn’t notice them during the night. Although the rooms are non-smoking, the downstairs area reeked of stale cigarette smoke. The breakfast was a disappointment, given the quality of food available in Italy. It seemed as though every attempt had been made to spend as little as possible on the food provided. While we were there, the coffee machine tripped the electricity three times and, the guests were left to throw the switch to restore power, as our host had disappeared. There is only two hour parking available on the street, but for six Euros a day, your car can be locked away an a garden just down the road.

One thing our host really needs to sort out - the paperwork that has to be collected from every guest (passport details, dates of birth, etc.) were left in unattended stacks in the main reception area throughout the duration of our stay where they could be accessed or taken by anyone passing through the room.

We were grateful to find this B&B on short notice, and it is an adequate place to stay, but I suspect that with a little more investigation, we could have found a place with more character and charm at a similar price.

Room Tip: Ask if any rooms don't back onto the railroad tracks behind the house.
