“Lousy service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

First of all, this hotel is far from the centre (a 15 minute walk) and some uphill walking is required, in case you carry heavy luggage. Secondly, do not expect any kind of service here, very rude staff who care only to check you in, to take your money and to throw you out first thing in the morning. You cannot get to your room until 5pm and they will throw you out at 9am, no questions asked, The Breakfast is absolutely horrible, it is bread with jam and coffee drunk in big soup bowls (seriously). DO NOT eat the 8 euro dinner, go get a pizza in town instead, everybody that spent the 8 euros complained about it. Oh, do not let me forget the mentioning of the many characters that are constantly hanging around this place, obviously this hotel also serves as a monastery and it is all the time full of immigrants hanging around the entrance and all over the premises - fins another place if you have a family.

“Something different and good value hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

The hostel is a 10-5 minute walk away from the town centre up an old cobblestone street. The hostel is quite a large property set in beautiful gardens, free wifi, basic breakfast. Great value at 20 euro each for a private 4 bed room with ensuite set in the garden, perhaps an old summer house? There is a castle just a couple of streets away, a tratoria around the corner and the hostel has dinner for 8 euro (though Verona has many nice restaurants. The hostel was clean and interesting with old frescoes painted around the cornices and roof. Great if your interested in something different, for families also, has parking! Don't let the location put you off!

“Save your 18 euro”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

We came to Verona for a day but due to unforeseen circumstances decided it would be best to stay the night. Unfortunately, it was a huge holiday weekend in Italy and virtually all other hotels were full. This was the first hostel stay for me and my three friends and it was a night to remember (...for all the wrong reasons). We're not picky, we get what a hostel is - but we did expect a bit more than what we got.

After an endless climb (or what seemed endless after walking the city for 6 or so hours) we reached the hostel. The front desk woman was cold-mannered and barely directed us to our dorm (we actually had to come back to ask her again because we couldn't find our assigned beds/room). With room found, stale-smelling and thin sheets in hand, we made our beds and debated the communal shower. In the end, we decided to jump in and get it over with - water is water and comfort is comfort. We relinquished the latter.

We got back to the hostel before curfew and could hardly sleep the entire night (ill-timed thunderstorms and creaky beds make rest impossible). It was a little scary. I won't go as far as to make the bed bug accusation but I will say that I itched the entire night (could be totally mental). What was scarier was the "breakfast" included the next morning: stale crackers, hardened toast wrapped in plastic, and what seemed to be coffee (looked like gruel) ladled into soup bowls. We nibbled on a cracker and got out as fast as we could. It felt safer outside then inside - Verona's beauty, thankfully, wasn't marred by a questionable stay in a local hostel.

“beautiful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2011

I arrived around 11am to discover that the gates don't open until 5pm. I was worried I would have to carry my big backpack around town with me, but I rang the bell and the cleaning staff was there and let me leave my bags behind the counter until check in. The area is lovely, up a cobblestone hill in a residential neighbourhood. The hostel grounds are also quite nice. Buildings are separate female and male. Rooms were small. The one I was in had 4 bunk beds. There are lockers, but you need to bring your own lock. The women's shower had no stalls just a communal shower. There was free wifi. Breakfast was standard (a bun, jam, tea or coffee). If you take Bus 73 from the train station for 'Piazza Isolo,' get off at the second to last stop then follow the yellow signs up the hill. From the hostel, you can walk to Piazza delle Erbe in town within about 10-15 minutes. The gates close at 11:30 pm and check out is by 9:30am.

“An 11 o clock curfew??”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

This hostel is very very pretty, located at the top of a cobblestoned hill. It's walkable from the town centre. An 11.30 curfew felt a bit limiting, especially to two 20 year old girls who haven't had a curfew in about 5 years. Breakfast was very basic, breadrolls, preserves and tea or hot chocolate. The showers in the girls dorm were communal. A pretty hostel, but not ideal for us.
