“Excellent hotel but watch the Free Trips.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel is very central, yet reasonably quiet, very clean and provides an excellent continental breakfast. The staff were very polite and helpful. The room was not huge, but was big enough. The bathroom, on the other hand, was a good size. One thing we especially liked was that the sheets were changed after the second night. (If we were rich enough to pay someone to wash and iron them, I would change sheets nightly at home!!!! - but we are not!). The only down-side was that we were offered a "free" trip to the Murano Glass factory, and were told that we would be taken by taxi. We checked and double checked. Yes the trip was "free". Please note that there is no charge to go round the glass factory. They do this in the hope of gaining a sale (of course). On signing out of the hotel we were presented with a bill for the taxi (i.e. the full cost of the "free" trip - which could easily have been done more cheaply on the Vaporetto). Pity - this left a bad taste in the mouth. If, you take this on board for the future, and avoid such "free trips" - unless you were going to take a taxi to murano anyway, this is an excellent hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: In Venice, expect a view of a wall unless you choose a hotel on a canal.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Overall it's a great hotel, very well located, very clean and charming. My husband and I travel quite frequently and have been to Europe many times. I could certainly say that to European standards this was an excellent choice of hotel. Perfectly located around the corner of the Rialto bridge were the water taxi drops you off. The room was very pretty and well decorated with beautiful fresh white linen. The bathroom is all marble with double sinks it seemed like it had just been renovated, with bathrobes, toiletteries, beautiful towels etc.
The hotel is located in the heart of all the shops and cafes, and a 5 or 6 minutes walk to Plaza St. Marco. The staff was very efficient, and polite as well as very helpfull, with any questions we had. The breakfast was included and was excellent, with beautiful china and cutlery, and crisp white table clothes. The food selection was just what you needed fruits, cheeses, cerearl, croissants, danishes and the regular scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon etc and all very nicely presented . Of course espressos, cappucinos, and all kinds of teas are served as well. It's not a sumptuous hotel like the (Ritz) but on a smaller scale it's an excellent 4* with pretty rooms and great amenities. The only negative if I have to mention one is that there is no great views from the windows. All the buildings are close together, so there is no landscape views. The staff was very sweet, on our last day we had to checkout early because of our flight, they prepared us 2 breakfast bags full of food, we couldn't finish half of it. I highly recommend this hotel for quality, service, and location. Unless money is no object and you are looking for the "Ritz standart" this is a great hotel, I would recommend it to all my friends and would definetly go back.

“Excellent”

This was our first trip to Italy and Venice was our last stop after 3 visits. We really enjoyed the hotel. The room was the nicest of the three that we stayed in.
Pros: Readily accessible from the Vaporretto stop with easy directions to find. This was really important for us because my wife was 5 months pregnant and we did not want to be lugging luggage through the streets of Venice. The room was a good size based on European standards. The staff was very friendly at the front and our room was always immaculate when we returned at the end of the day. It was a more modern hotel so the ammenities were also nice. The location was also convenient. We were about 5 minutes from St. Mark's Square and 2 minutes from the Vaporretto.
Cons: The breakfast was just ok for us. It seems to be a standard European style breakfast. I was a little disappointed the bacon and eggs weren't ready when the breakfast started at 7am because we had to catch our plane. I also think the milk for the cereal might have spoiled. I did love the croissants and the free hot chocolate in the morning was also nice.

Room Tip: Book early.

“Back again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Stayed at La Commedia last October and this January we had an equally pleasant and relaxing time. Hotel accommodation was excellent, staff were very helpful and courteous as before and we were only sorry that we were not staying longer. Venice itself is equally fascinating in winter as in summer. The Basilica has no queues at this time of year! The city itself positively overflows with art and atmosphere and hopefully we will return again to explore further as there is still plenty to see.

Room Tip: higher floors quieter, a few have balconies which would be great in warmer weather as is the roof te...
