My last trip to Venice lasted one week and I divided my bookings into three different places in order to have a richer experience of the different areas -or sestieri- of the city.
Having spent three nights in Ca' San Giorgio was like opening a big door to a different Venice and I am very pleased with the experience. This B&B by the Grand Canal is a very well kept secret. The service is excellent and the place very comfortable.
Located in the area or sestiere Santa Croce. Right between two vaporetto stops: Riva di Biasio and San Stae. The absence of crowds in Santa Croce is a relief from areas like San Marco or Rialto, lousy with tourists. It is also very convenient for visiting places like I Frari, San Rocco, Ca 'Pesaro, and the recently opened exhibition of the Fundazione Prada at Ca' Corner della Regina. All of them amazing buildings full of Art treasures. The area is also full of nice places to rest and have a spritz or a bite to eat around Campo San Giacomo Dell'Orio.
Ca' San Giorgio is a beautiful building close to the waters of the Grand Canal. The rooms are spacious -except the ones on the ground floor- and very well furnished. Mini bar, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, TV and safety box. The bathroom was kitted out with lovely organic toiletries. The beds are super comfy and everything is impeccable and clean. There is also a lounge area downstairs with a computer available to guests.
Breakfast is generous and enough to satisfy even the biggest appetite. It is served in a very comfortable room and has a selection of juices, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, ham and cheese, breads, toast, fresh croissants, jam, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and for the chocolate lovers…Nutella! Everything is fresh and topped up constantly. The atmosphere at breakfast time is very friendly and you can also enjoy nice music, sometimes 80's hits (kidding), selected by Ana who I had the pleasure to meet. I am very grateful for all her attentions. She gave us a very warm welcome, nice talk and she also recommended several places and restaurants. Not only that she went through the trouble of booking a table at a nearby restaurant the night of my birthday. I'll say it again: the service is excellent.
I would recommend Ca 'San Giorgio mainly to anyone wanting to have a different experience in a less known but beautiful area of the city. And also to those who appreciate the quality of a proper rest at the end of the day. Something so important in a city as exhausting as Venice.
