Just returned from a 4xnight stay at the Eden, and I believe it's a great value hotel. It is low-cost, and very basic but would definitely stay there again, as it is is spotlessly clean. The TV in the room shows only Italian channels, but the airconditioning worked a treat. There is a mini-fridge already stocked with drinks to purchase (but you can squeeze your own pre-bought water into there to keep cold) We struggled to find the hotel when we arrived, but now we're familiar with it we realise what a great location it is. It takes about 20minutes to walk to St Mark's Square (or longer if like us girls you get sidetracked by the millions of glass jewellery shops!).
Tips: Get a bus from the airport to Piazalle Roma bus station, its ten mins walk from there to the Eden and costs 4euros. If you take the vaporetto, you can't see out of the windows, takes ages and costs 15euros. Following this we didn't take another vaporetto, we walked everywhere as Venice is quite small.
Tip: Ask different Gondoliers for the price of a gondola ride, as it varies as to how busy they are. It costs lots more to have a ride from St Marks Square than it does on the little canals near the hotel. (EG we were quoted 140euros in St Marks, 80euros nearby).
Tip: if your room has a double bed in it, and like us you needed a twin, just tell reception and they come and split the bed back into two singles for you, no problem.
Would I go again to the Hotel Eden? Hell yeah! it was a magical holiday!
