“a bargain, great staff”

My mum had stayed here twice in the past and highly recommended it because of its exceptional price - only 90E a night for a double room (shared bathroom) - and location. It's a few minutes' walk from St Mark's and close to the canal boat stops (easy access to the train station and airport). While it is a little daggy and down-at-heel; with the classic old Venetian florals, heavy dark wood furniture, a creaky/uneven staircase and hard bed and pillows, we didn't mind. It's a super-old building and it's amazing that anything in Venice is till standing really! The owner/manager Nicos, his brother and sister are charming, speak a few languages and are happy to answer questions, guide and help you. There's a great late night eatery called Bacchus nearby, excellent for an emergency panini or vino. The view out of our window onto the canal, and hearing the gondoliers singing along on a regular basis, was a highlight; so romantic and amazing for a first-time visitor. The slightly surly late night doorman doesn't do them any favours though.

“Great Location, clean comfortable rooms, nice breakfast.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at Albergo Doni. The B &B was easy to find, and minutes from St.Mark's square. It has a lot of charm too. We stayed in a very romantic room that faces the canal - we could hear the gondeliers in the evening as they passed by. The room had a shared bath which was decent (the toliet was separate). The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was typical Italian, very plentiful, and the seating area was cute. The owner gave us a tremendous recomendation for Pizza at Antica Sacrestia - very authentic and some of the best we found in our entire 5 weeks of travel. You can't beat the price for this location.

“Fine and central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

This was a great location for exploring Venice. Room was basic but fine - and nice to hear gondoliers singing beneath the window. Staff pleasant and friendly. Don't wear socks walking in the halls or to the bathroom though as floors were pretty slippy and I managed to have a bit of a nasty fall. Pillows are hard so was glad to have taken another traveller's advice on bringing my own travel pillow. Breakfast basic - cereal and a roll - but fine to start the day... On the whole though a nice place to stay for the price and location.

“mosquito den. one big headache”

Great location and that's it. If you are going to stay in Venice pay a little more and get somewhere that you will be able to get a good nights sleep. Stuffy. mosquitos. towels in need of replacing. poor service from night staff. don't try to turn a light on in the dining room at night (only wifi access area).. or an abrupt staff member will turn off the light and say 'owner only allows 1 light on and walk out again'... globe was about 5watts.

“Bare necessities, right by San Marco, good for solo traveler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

For the solo traveler who only intends to be in the room to sleep, I would recommend staying here. The single room would not fit more than 1 person if attempted. A ceiling fan kept the room at a decent temperature at night (when it was about 72-75 degrees outside) although I am not sure how adequate it would be during a heat wave. 3 single rooms shared 1 bathroom on the floor.

About a 2 minute walk to the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. About a 5 minute walk to the Grand Canal. Not a bad price (60 Euros a night) considering the Redentore holiday weekend. Be prepared to pay in cash. Breakfast included yogurt, juice.
