At breakfast one morning, as Bruno, one of the owners, placed a couple of gorgeous cappuccinos in front of us, we happened to mention that we were taking the train that Friday to Bolzano for the final leg of our trip in Italy. He raised an eyebrow and told us that a rail strike was planned for that day. “But don’t worry!” he said, “I will take care of you!” And boy did he ever. For two consecutive days he went to the train station to talk to the railway people about options for us, then purchased tickets on our behalf for a train which was actually going to be moving that day. On the Friday we turned up at the station to see the entire departures board covered with “CANCELLED” except for the train which Bruno had found, and every seat on that train was taken, but he had reserved seats for us. Needless to say, he went above and beyond and saved the day for us. This hotel makes you feel like you’ve come to visit friends (in their really sweet home) – you can do your own thing but are totally taken care of for anything you might need.
We stayed in the Junior suite, which lived up to all expectations. It was glorious to just hang out and watch the traffic go by on the canal. Because this is a landmarked building they couldn’t move any walls in the renovation; hence the bedroom of the Junior suite is large enough to hold a football match and the bathroom is the size of a closet. If you look forward to luxuriating in a bathtub, this is not the room for you. If a small bathroom doesn’t bother you, this room is sheer perfection. We had a wonderful stay.
