I hope that my review will not elicit a response from the management, but I will try to be kind. We made a reservation about 3 weeks before our trip to Venice. We only had 3 nights, so we wanted to make sure of our dinner choices. I went to tripadvisor, as I always do, and chose Giorgione because of mostly favorable reviews. The last week before the trip the reviews headed south... wish I had followed my heart and cancelled, but I kept it hoping the latest reviews were a fluke. They were not.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we saw the pre fixe menus outside, and only one table sitting inside. The server was standing by the door and we think he was waiting for us. I thought that we should keep walking by, which we did at first, but my guilt mechanism kicked in and we returned to find the server closing down the patio.
After a nice greeting we were seated inside at a table next to the only other party in the room. This is where all my concerns about the bad reviews I had recently read started coming true.
1. No menu was offered.
2. The server said he would put together a nice appetizer consisting of 3 items. What we
got was a large plate of all seafood. Must be the only choice they have!
3. Pasta dishes were very uneven. Delicious pasta, perfectly al dente, with great sauces
but the ingredients were so off. My supposed scallops were non existent.... there was
some kind of chewy ground up clam creature in its place. My partners seafood fettuc-
cine had nice prawns, but terrible mussels. On top of this, he had ordered the pasta
nero but the server had brought him the wrong dish.
I will say that the dining room was very nice, and the seafood plate was mostly delicious, but that was about it. We felt very uncomfortable for most of the night because of the server's attitude. He insisted there were scallops in my pasta even after I showed him there were none! I know what a scallop is. He tried to make up for the wrong pasta order by bringing a little of the pasta nero, but there was no calamari in it.
The prices were reasonable for what we had, but I do wish we had dined somewhere else. I did read some of the favorable Italian reviews, but experienced nothing remotely similar. I'm glad they enjoy it.
We were lucky to have much better dining experiences on the rest of our trip, and loved our short trip to Venice. I just can't recommend this restaurant.
