“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

A wonderfully warm and welcoming hotel which provided us with an ideal respite from the Siberian weather which greeted our arrival in Venice.

A spectacular room (we were offered a choice). Caterina and all her staff were very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was excellent. Great location, just round the corner from a vaporetto stop.

We'd go back in a heartbeat... though we'll wait until it's warmer.

“Poor for three....probably good if only two”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My two friends and I stayed for only one night.....we had previously stayed in Venice for seven nights at a different hotel and were now on our way home after visiting the Veneto. The location of Al Duca di Venezia is excellent if you are leaving Venice as it is only one stop on the vaporatto after the train station and two beyond the Tronchetto parking lot. It is easily walkable from either but be mindful that if walking from the train you must cross over a large bridge with many stairs.
When we arrived we were greeted by a woman who was just mildly pleasant. She seemed only to have pat answers for sightseeing questions I had and I left the desk feeling like I knew more about the area than she did.
The room to which we were assigned was the red room....truly a lovely room, but only if there are two people sharing it. The extra bed, and I am being generous here, was just a small cot with an extremely thin mattress. It was suitable for a small child under 10. We three have been traveling for years and never have we been given an extra bed of this quality. I would have very much appreciated it if they said they were not equipped to handle three adults in one room and we would have booked elsewhere.

“a pleasure in a city full of challenges!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Venice is certainly not an easy city to deal with -- but this hotel goes out of its way to alleviate some of the challenges. Our room was charming and spacious; the bathroom was a bit small -- but convenient. Breakfast was ample and good! The staff -- although a bit harried -- took time to deal with individual traveller concerns. (The hotel had a lot of guests!) The location -- beside the Natural History museum -- is a short walk from a dock at the end of the street. A taxi from the station is 40 euros -- and, therefore, getting to the hotel is relatively easy. The San Toma vaporetto station is not the far away either -- and taking the vaporetto is much easier than navigating through Venice's complicated streets -- just walk "inland" from the vaporetto station nearest to where you are going. The hotel arranged to have a boat meet us at the dock at the end of the street for a transfer to the airport; so I can say that this hotel has service down to a science!

“Almost Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Maybe this review helps somebody, here is how we made it from start till end:

1st we went to Mestre

2nd searching for parking from other sites, didn't help us, so we found parking (google map coordinates: 45.482229,12.234607)
parking was cheap, only downside is leaving keys, so don't leave expensive stuff in car

3rd We got tickets for train on that parking spot, for Venice and back, so we had 30 sec walk to train station and finding Venecia - Santa Lucia train which drives like, every 10 minutes or so.

4th arriving in Venice - Santa Lucia station. From station to Hotel you have like 6-7 minutes walk, or you can take Vaporetto, which I find too expensive for such short ride.

5th finding hotel was not so big problem. But it can be much easier while Natural Museum footsteps on streets are drawn in, you should just follow them, as Natural Museum is just across street from Hotel.

Hotel:
We got map on reception, which was great help when GPS from phone stopped working in small streets, and with map we were never lost. If you have any question reception will jump in to help you. I must admit they were always busy or on the phone.

Superior red room was amazing, really was. Bed is comfy and everything was clean. Bathroom was as well, clean and nice.
Room had smell of cinnamon, I don't like cinnamon, but smell was amazing, it had relaxation effect on me.

Breakfast was nice and simple, I'm vegetarian, but there is not so much things Vegans could eat for breakfast. Overall I'm very pleased with breakfast, was fresh, all that I needed and taste was good. Breakfast room was small, but fit and nice, had that "romantic" touch, like eating with family.

There is Wi-Fi in room, but it disconnects after short while so I even learned my username and password.

Hotel has lift, so it is not problem to get to the rooms.

Few downsides for this Superior room:
- no carpet between bed and bathroom
- plugs for devices are different (more narrow) than other European countries, so I could plug in some but not all devices, solution, ask on reception for extend (in bathroom there is normal plug)
- no slippers, it is cold and feels dirty to walk only in socks in room, especially on part from bed till bathroom. Small carpet would solve it. (on reception we were told it is cause of cleaning), but I don't agree, small carpet would solve all.
- you can hear if somebody rent room above yours, walking and shaking of luster.

Around Hotel:
La Zucca restaurant was so close, it is just around the corner, you need reservation day before, but don't worry about it, just ask on reception of hotel to book you in.
Store, there is coop store few steps away from Zucca 1 minute from hotel.
Museum is like 10 steps away from Hotel.
To get to Rialto Bridge you will need at least 7-10 minutes.

Room Tip: Not sure if there is superior room above one that we stayed, but if there is, it would be maybe bett...

“The Red Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during our honeymoon and I will never stay anywhere else when we are in Venice. You will not find a better hotel in Venice than this one.

We arrived in the morning around 9am and the hotel manager greeted us at the front desk. She was a very nice lady; full of infomation and very accomodating. She checked in our bags and even tho breakfast was over she still had some of the kitchen staff bring out some bread, cheese, ham, pastries, and one of the best cappucinos we have ever had for us. On top of all that they did the same thing for us when we checked out at the ungodly hour of 5am!! I was shocked and very pleased to have some morning coffee before the train to Milan.

We had asked ahead of time for the red room and no doubt they saved it for us. What a beauty of a room. The decor was amazing, the room was huge, and the bed was awesome. I especially liked the black out curtains in the room. The view from the room was nice also, overlooking a courtyard for a meusem next door.

The location was excellent as well, very close to the train station. We walked from the train station, even with our luggage, and it couldnt have taken longer than 15 mins to get there. There is a water taxi station nearby but we never used it. We preferred to walk to the sites since it isnt very far anyways. The Rialto is maybe 15 mins away if your strolling and the Piazza de San Marco is another 15 mins from there.

Room Tip: Ask for the red room. You wont regret it.
