Italy has what I call a hotel problem : high prices & low quality. If you've ever stayed in one of those shabby hotel rooms that haven't been refreshed since the early 70's and try to pass that as quaint and old Europe, you'll see what I mean.
This is all the more acute in the most touristy cities, Venice being probably the worst offender (Rome and Florence close second and third).
So Ca' Barba came as a delightful option, being of top quality and cheap (at around 100€ a night, that is cheap by Venitian standards)
The b&b is basically a town house very recently (and tastily) fully renovated. The room was spatious, spotless, and the environment very quiet. Good bed too, and top-notch wifi (you can borrow an Ipad if you're so inclined). Bathroom with jacuzzi was as advertised
Location is excellent, 2 min walk from the Rialto.
Now on to the host : Laura (Alessandro's very nice girlfriend) took great care of me, waited for my late arrival on Friday night, told me where to eat, and on the day I left proposed that I keep the key until my flight (I declined)
In summary, I cannot recommend it more and will direct anyone who asks me for a place to stay in Venice to it
