Spent four nights at the Alba Chiarra and really enjoyed it. Bergamo is a charming place to wander round, relax and take in the views. The B&B was excellent. We had a very spacious room which was very quiet as it was at the back of the building. The breakfasts were wonderful with lots of fresh fruit, cheese or ham and plenty of juice and coffee or tea. It was great to be able to go back and rest up later in the day before going out to eat. The location is right in the middle of town so very convenient for everything. Both funiculars could be reached in five minutes. The only quibbles were that the pillows were a bit too thin and soft and the shower was of the hand held variety. The hosts don't live at the B&B so you have to phone when you get there. It's tucked away so don't bank on the locals knowing where it is. We had a few meals in Sole which was very good but you are spoiled for choice for eating and drinking. The lower funicular has a cafe/bar with excellent views over the lower town. At the top of the upper funicular Ristorante St Vigilio provides a lovely terrace for meals or drinks with wonderful views over the surrounding hills as well as excellent pizzas from their wood fired oven.
