“Terrific location. Good amenities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Recently spent two nights at the Capello d'Oro. The staff were remarkable in their friendliness and helpful advice. Lobby is large and attractive. A big basket of apples is placed by the door. Parking facitilies are in back of the hotel, but cost a whopping 20 euros a night. Our room was on the front of the hotel, and if we had not had the windows closed and AC on, we would have been greatly bothered by the noise from the busy street and piazza outside. Next time, I would ask for a room on the back of the hotel. Room very attractive, with a large bathroom, lacking in shelf space, however. The beds are quite hard; ditto the pillows. But there is a large choice of pillows which can be ordered from Housekeeping, including non-allergenic, soft, or memory-foam. There is a not-well advertised courtyard on the first floor (European style) which is labelled as a smoking space, but which was not frequented by smokers while we were there. Very large with attractive plantings and tables and chairs protected by large umbrellas. We bought sandwiches and had a pleasant lunch there. The hotel is conveniently located for transportation, but the funicular to the Upper City is only a 10-15 minute walk away. The breakfast offerings were fine, but not up to the usual Best Western standard. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but it was very expensive, so we went elsewhere to eat. All together, this is a very comfortable, pleasant hotel. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room on the back.

“Very convenient for railway station and old and new cities”

Situated right by the bus stop for the Airport-Old City bus yet only a short walk from the railway station. Not too far from the old city on foot. Very nice hotel only let down by plastic tumblers in the bathroom!!!

“Good location, noisy at front, OK standard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Stayed for 3 nights (Fri/Sat/Sun) in Superior room (i.e. the basic grade room?). Got one on upper floor, facing street as requested. Glad didn't ask for quieter one at rear - smoking area and possibly not so private. But street is very noisy, if window opened and had to do so because the Air Con couldn't cope with 30 degree heat. Throughout the weekend, there must have been a bell ringing contest at church opposite (8 & 9.30 am Sun) - so not possible to sleep late!. Had to ask for new password for Wifi every 10 hrs (twice/day) - such a pain. Breakfast was ok, though really should raise the volume of music - atmosphere felt like a funeral. Otherwise staff at reception etc all very friendly, though never personable as such.
Shower cubicle was 0.7 x 0.7 m (just over 2 ft x 2 ft), so quite small. No mixer, so difficult to control water temperature. Toilet - very, very difficult for me to get seated and I'm just about 1.8 m (6 ft) tall - this really was quite difficult!. We asked the hotel to recommend a pizza/pasta restaurant - they recommended the Pizzeria Napoli, which is really dreadful! (this is not even listed in Tripadvisor so far) - it was very bright, with garish green walls, ok staff, but truly dreadful pasta. Pizza's ok. Bobino (separate review) was much better, though hotel staff dismissed it as a bar - shows how little that staff member knew.

Room Tip: Taxis are a rarity in Lower Bergamo (from our experience, at least). Lucikly, public transport is e...

“Perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The hotel has a really nice decor, reception and restaurant well presented. The breakfast choice was very good. The rooms are well furnished and had a good bathroom. The staff were welcoming and gave a good image for the hotel.
The hotel is perfectly positioned with a bus stop outside to take you to the airport or up to the old town.
Bergamo itself is a very pleasant town, with a noticable absence of noisy bars and hen/stag parties. There are reasonably priced restaurants in both old and new town with prices to suit everyone. A perfect location for a quiet weekend away.

“Shopping by Night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

Excellent luggage/parking service, good lobby.
Actually, we didn't know about the shopping by night event but is was fun, and with the lids closed quit sustainable.
Room (clean) can handle 3rd bed, lacks some extra 230V outlets.
A little smile and teawater that doesn't taste like coffee isn't that much to ask for I hope.
