Recently spent two nights at the Capello d'Oro. The staff were remarkable in their friendliness and helpful advice. Lobby is large and attractive. A big basket of apples is placed by the door. Parking facitilies are in back of the hotel, but cost a whopping 20 euros a night. Our room was on the front of the hotel, and if we had not had the windows closed and AC on, we would have been greatly bothered by the noise from the busy street and piazza outside. Next time, I would ask for a room on the back of the hotel. Room very attractive, with a large bathroom, lacking in shelf space, however. The beds are quite hard; ditto the pillows. But there is a large choice of pillows which can be ordered from Housekeeping, including non-allergenic, soft, or memory-foam. There is a not-well advertised courtyard on the first floor (European style) which is labelled as a smoking space, but which was not frequented by smokers while we were there. Very large with attractive plantings and tables and chairs protected by large umbrellas. We bought sandwiches and had a pleasant lunch there. The hotel is conveniently located for transportation, but the funicular to the Upper City is only a 10-15 minute walk away. The breakfast offerings were fine, but not up to the usual Best Western standard. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but it was very expensive, so we went elsewhere to eat. All together, this is a very comfortable, pleasant hotel. Highly recommended.
