A group of six (3 "mature" couples) stayed for 2 nights en route to Lake Garda. We had arranged at booking to be picked up by the advertised free shuttle, but when we attempted to confirm this by email on the day before we travelled, we were told that it was not available - no explanation given. We took the airport transfer bus to the Town centre and then opted to walk the "short distance" to the hotel, dragging our luggage with us- bad mistake - it took more than 30 mins. The hotel is situated in a quiet, rather characterless side-street off a larger more pleasant thoroughfare which has some nice shopping, but it is not as convenient either to the Town Centre or to the Cita Alta as the website implies.
The hotel consists of 7 bedrooms and a reception area, all on the ground floor of an apartment block, with a rather cramped breakfast area in the basement. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-furnished and air-conditioned.
The only staff we met were reception staff who appeared to be student-types and we only ever saw one person on duty at any time. We never encountered anyone who appeared to be from management - perhaps they were on holiday. The staff whom we did meet spoke adequate-to-good English.and were helpful with directions etc. We unfortunately left some garments behind in a wardrobe and they were good and honest enough to save them for us to pick up on our return journey.
We found the breakfast service poor; coffee/tea was provided in individual cups on request by the receptionist on the upper floor, who had to be called down each time replenishment was needed. The selection of food was very limited. The croissants that were available were of the flavoured, prepacked type and there was no sign of the fresh homemade products mentioned on the website. Some of the guests were so annoyed that they threatened to leave.
Overall, we found this hotel to be acceptable, but expensive. We later stayed in a larger hotel in Malcesine, beautifully situated on Lake Garda, with comparable accommodation, excellent food and brilliant staff, at a rate approximately 50% cheaper.
Perhaps all Bergamo Town hotels are expensive ??
