“Nice clean room with friendly staff, good A/C”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2009

We stayed one night while on our 25th wedding anniversary trip to Cote d'Azur. We decided to take a one day trip for a good plate of pasta from Nice to Ventimiglia by train. The ride is so smooth and the train station is walkable to the beach and restaurants. Ventimiglia is a small old Italian village with friendly and lively people. We enjoyed our pasta at a beachside restaurant then were headed back to the train station where everyone was waiting outside with their luggage. All the trains were cancelled for the night-soppresso, soppresso. So we headed back to the beach area after trying for an hour to get a bus or a taxi back to Nice to no avail. We came upon this hotel which looked cute with their cacti landscape and large patio area in front. We luckily were able to get a room for 130 euros. Although not large, the room was cool with a very nice clean bathroom and a little balcony. The room was well soundproofed when the doors were closed with the dual pane windows. The bed was comfortable and a beautiful breakfast was served on the terrace with the lovely seaview of calm waters. An enjoyable stay!

“Friendly Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2008

We were on motorcycles touring the French Riviera and riding from Menton to Lake Geneva via the "Route du Grande Alps".
This hotel has secure garage parking for motorcycles, which was a bonus for us. Friendly staff, particularly the lady who checked us in, her english was poor, but then so is my italian, so we conversed in French all of the time. The bathroom in our room in the annexe was tiny and cramped. However a big plus was that the bedroom was air conditioned, which was great as the weather outside was very hot. Great restaurants a few metres from the hotel, overlooking the beach. Very friendly barman/night porter who kept us topped up with drinks. Great breakfast which we had in the dining room, with a great view of the sea only 20 metres away. I would happily stay here again as a base to explore the area and to venture to Menton and Monaco where the hotels can be overpriced with only average service.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, good quality of service, breakfast, Secure motorcycle parking
  • Disliked — Tiny bathroom

“We didn't like it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2008

For us it was not a pleasant experience ... but this hotel was the only one that we could find at 2 am, after a terrible experience (somenone cut us 2 tires). We were so happy for finding a hotel (the others that we found were full), that we didn't ask to see a room before we check in ....big mistake. We payed and the receptionist lead us to our room. We thought we'll stay in the hotel, and that one looked nice, but no, he took us in the annex.
When we enterred that builduing ....it was so smelly, our room the same. It was a very small room, with a small batroom. The shower was rusted, it was ugly. The sheets were clean, they came to clean the room in the morning, but it was an ugly room. We were sorry for staying there, mostly after seeing the Menton with his beautiful building. The room was ugly, the surroundings were ugly, ugly buildings. And for the price we've payed here at the Seagull, we've stayed a week earlier right in the center of Rijeka (Croatia) at a four stars hotel (indeed a four stars hotel).
We chose Ventimiglia to stay for visiting Monte Carlo and Cannes, but unfortunately we were not very well informed (we've made a little tour and we haven't thought about visiting Monte Carlo and Cannes from the begining). We payed at the Seagull 120-125E/ night, we could stay in Cannes at Etap Hotel (Accor Hotels) with ~56E/ night in better conditions or in the Iris Hotel (also Accor Hotels) for ~90E/ night in great conditions (we didn't stay in these hotels, but my sister did and she is much more exigent than me). I wrote about these hotels for that ones who are thinking to visit Cote d'Azur and to stay in Ventimiglia, don't make the same mistake we did.

“Exceptional and Outstanding in Every Way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2008

I have just returned from the most magical and relaxing experience I have had in years. As I have not been able to go back to Europe for more than 25 years, I was pleasantly and absolutely satisfied, especially with my choice of hotel.
The Hotel Seagull was everything I expected and then some. The room and amenities were impeccable (breakfast is served every day and is included in the price of the room). The hotel itself is lovely, tastefully decorated, with a beautiful veranda overlooking the sea. Peaceful and quiet, just a few minutes to downtown. I have found it extremely convenient and would highly recommend it to all my friends. I will not stay anywhere else when I go back next year, along with some of my friends.
I just cannot say enough about the warm welcome, the cordial reception every one receives, the attention to details and mostly the cleanliness. Being extremely fussy, it even surpassed my expectation.

  • Liked — accessibility, service, cleanliness, friendliness....
  • Disliked — nothing - it was perfect!

“nice hotel”

second time we have stayed here rooms very nice and clean. it is situated in the old town area of Ventimiglia. the family who run the hotel are very nice and marina who deals with the bookings speaks very good english. there are some very good restaraunts in the the area. the beach is of the peeble type but very clean. there is a very good and very large market every friday in the town. the area is very italian i.e some buildings in the area run down. the best thing about Ventimiglia though is its location to the french cote da zure i.e monaco is only 20km away and menton the first town in france after the boarder is very very nice. nice and its airport are only 40km and then cannes (the film festival) is approx 50km. so staying in the Ventimiglia area and especially the sea gull hotel is alot less expensive than the french side of the boarder. if travelling to monaco etc i would advice you to go the coast road at least once for the views rather than on the autostrada/ motorway as this can get expensive with all the toll charges but of course its alot quicker.
