Arrived in a storm dripping all over their reception area, with no luggage and no reservation - the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. They had every opportunity to charge us what they liked, but did not - go the same rate as those with reservations.

We had a terrific view of the beach and promenade through 8 foot tall windows with old fashioned shutters. The sound of the waves on the beach were soothing. The staff was friendly and slightly fluent in English.

This grande dame of the promenade was built around 1880 and has had minimal maintenance ever since. The modern bathroom was small and cheap; there was not even a soap tray in the tiny shower. The floor is original parquetry that has shrunk and come loose, creaking and sagging as one walks; when a person in the adjoining room walks, it sounds as though they are in your room. The floor leans. We had to walk up four flights of stairs because the elevator was waiting for repairs; the staff carried our bags with great grunting.

We spent the night trying not to roll off the bed and onto the floor. The lighting is poor and the desk had no light whatsoever. Electrical outlets were at a premium.

This Hotel has several interesting features:
- is located very close to the highway exit and the airport
- has a wonderfull sea view
- has a private parking (nearly vital in towns like Genova)
- is located not far (400m) from a bus-boat stop (it take 30min to get to the town center)
- the building once was a noble family private mansion, you can still feel the old magnificence of the place

However it seriously needs a full restoration and redecoration, the rooms are old (wooden floor, bathroom, furniture) therefore do not expect luxury or fancyness.
But I still recomend it, because you cannot find all this for the price they usually ask, the staff is gentle and the breakfast room, service and food is good.

Former residence of local aristocracy, this Grand Hotel has retained an air of old fashioned charm. Very convenient and cheaper for visiting Genoa, Portofino e other resorts on the Italian Riviera, spotlessly clean, and near the airport. Located in Pegli, a quiet, elegant residential area, with many shops and a lovely promenade.
