I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The purpose of my trip was a conference and I could have booked a more expensive hotel. But I hoped a 4* hotel, even at 65 euro/night would keep its rank.
However, first surprise came before entering the hotel: the hotel was literally in front of the station, on via Balbi, which meant it was going to be noisy. So I asked for a room on a quieter side, but there was none available and although the lady seemed very kind, I didn't get an upgrade to another room in the next days. The building used by the hotel is an old one, however adapted for this use and there was only a faint smell of damp in the halls.
My room was a double room for single use. I was quite large and but the furniture was fairly old and when I started the air conditioning I realized it was smelling bad. So I turned it off, since it was also quite noisy. However, when I woke up at 5 am because of the noise in the street (some buses stop just nearby and station there with the motor on) I had to turn the AC on so it covered the noise with its annoying but monotonous noise and I could finally get back to sleep.
The bathroom was small compared to the room size and had only one light near the door, in front of the mirror. So the rest of it was quite dark. There was a shower, with a quite old curtain and I noticed there was mold on the shower tiles and, worse, on the shower head!
Walls were dated and stained but still reasonable (not what one would expect from a 4* hotel though). The TV was really small and old and had only (12) Italian free waves stations.
On the good side there were slippers offered and some extra facilities like shower cap and shoe sponge. But this could in no case compensate for the lack of comfort and the cheap feeling of a 1* hotel... I didn't try the sauna but I had a look at their fitness center, which had old equipment and was somewhere in the underground level in a small room which has put me off.
The offered breakfast had really no choice for the continental stile (only one type of ham and one type of cheese), but it tasted ok. The coffee was the long, black coffee that had nothing to do with the specialties one could buy from their bar.
Last and not least, the wi-fi internet costs 20 euro/24 consecutive hours, so I didn't get it because it was offered for free at the conference. However I regretted one of the 3* hotels which offered the access in their lobbies...
Also, I didn't expect to have a sink in the chamber, and I missed having a coffee/tee tray you normally get in any British hotel...
I took plenty of pictures, if you want more just let me know!
