“Simple and honest hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This hotel does not want to be what they are not, which is a top hotel.
It is a simple hotel with cozy and clean rooms. Staff is the best this hotel has. Very attentious and sympathetic people we dealt with while staying there.
Breakfast is something they really need to improve as reposition of the items being consumed was not very good and towards the end of the period no reposition was ever made.
If you are looking for an average hotel, this is a good pick as it is very well located (very close to the train station and some attractions of the city).

“Definitely not 3 stars!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

This hotel is very well located although this may be one of the few positives about it. However in saying this I think my view of the hotel is subjective because there was no air conditioning for the two nights we stayed. Being the middle of August and quite hot it was very uncomfortable to sleep. I would not recommend this hotel as I believe the air conditioning probably breaks down a lot more than it should for a 3star hotel. We arrived on a Saturday morning and were told it should be fixed by that night if not the following morning. When we inquired about it the following morning we were told that nobody works on a Sunday in Italy. There was no apologies or any compensation which makes me think that this is a regular problem. If there was aircon then it would be a nice hotel but still not 3 stars in my opinion.

“Great Location would stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

This was probably the easiest hotel we have ever stayed at to find. Straight off train, straight ahead to the left. It was also a good location to explore the port and walk to the cruise ship terminal. Although if you are older maybe take a taxi as the cobbles and a bit of a hill may be an issue for some. The rooms although a bit dated in decor were big and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. The people very helpful and friendly. Would stay here again.

“Faulty Towers (Genoa)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

Soon as I got to my room aircon wasn't working, tried adjusting the controls nothing happened. Reception said there was a problem expected to be fixed in a few days, I was not pleased. Receptionist gave me a fan which was OK until you went to sleep then it was too noisy. Later saw printed notice in English/ Italian by reception saying there was no date for fixing the aircon which was working OK on the ground floor. Also only one lift (of 2) ever working and that was very temperamental!! Breakfast was supposed to be
available until 10.00am weekdays but if the ham and cheese was all used by 9.30am
staff didn't bring any more. Whole atmosphere was very minimalistic and no charm.
Bedding was changed daily but as rooms were so warm this was nearly essential. The
premises next door had designated the pavement next to the entrance a smoking area
which was very unpleasant. Hotel would rate as only 2-3 stars in UK and was worse
than some bottom end London budget dives. Only plus was being handy for airport
buses, train station and Metro. Will be telling my travel agent of this in due course.

Room Tip: If no aircon, walk out!

“Make sure the air conditioning is working before you check in...!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

We stayed here with my parents for 4 nights in June, having got the train down from Turin. The hotel is at the 'train station' end of Via Balbi, literally a 2 minute walk from the station exit.
Check in was easy and we had rooms next door to each other. However, the air conditioning was not working for our entire stay and with temperatures of up to 34 degrees and no breeze, dressing and sleeping wasn't easy or pleasant. All the reception staff could do for the first two days was a typically Italian shrug and when we did finally manage to get fans out of them for the last two nights, they actually had very little effect!
Temperatures aside, the hotel was ok though there was only one lift working for the duration of our stay. The rooms were a little dated and the cleaner didn't seem to understand the concept of 'do not disturb', knocking anyway. Breakfast was mainly limited to carbohydrates in the form of bread, cereals and plenty of croissants and cakes - but if you waited long enough, they would eventually bring out a bowl of fresh fruit salad each day.
The hotel is perhaps a 15 minute walk from the port (highly recommended for a visit) or from the centre of town but is in a good location for train travel. There are also a couple of nice local restaurants literally next door and across the road, which were very reasonably priced. However, I would not stay here again as whilst the location was good for us, there are bound to be better run hotels in Genoa for the same price.
