Got off to a bad start at this hotel when the faulty lock locked us and a few other people we were travelling with into our rooms. After much banging on the door, the man from reception begrudgingly came up and repaired the lock. Am used to small hotel bathrooms but the bathroom in our room was so small you could barely squeeze in to get the the shower. On the plus side, the hotel has a great location in this beautiful village and a nice little courtyard area.

tucked away at the end of a side alley or narrow street just off the main street in the old section of monterrosso. not the friendliest front desk staff, not mean, just indifferent.
crazy amount of stairs to lug luggages up (up to the main office and up to your room), so if thats an issue for you, you better look elsewhere.
NO AC, however we stayed there end of august for 3 nights and the nights were just fine - the windows were open and it was cool enough in the evenings. - we were in the building attached to the main office and facing the back. no direct sun coming into our windows but a nice view of the hillside and other homes.
clean enough, though they do move your belongings when the do the bedding each day (i rather they just work around it)
continental breakfast was satisfactory. the man who makes the coffee each morning is very accomodating and pleasant. i liked the penatone like bread in the morning.
towels are thin, but i think that is expected in Italy.
it wasnt too noisy where we were, I mean the hallways you could hear when people were going in and out but thats just how it echos.
over all a good place for friends who are on a budget and want an affordable clean sufficient place to stay in this town.
location in monterrosso was kinda far-ish from the main things but not out of town - so in this sense there is some walking but not enough that you need a taxi or anything. we even wheeled our luggage from the train station (which is in the new town) a good 10-15 min walk. (may hard for a backpacker though).

Hotel Souvenier was not the nicest place we stayed at during our trip, however it was also quite inexpensive and a decent value for the money. The bed was nice, the room spartan but comfortable, and we shared a bathroom with several other rooms. What is best about this place is its location! The hotel is located in the older, quainter part of Monterosso al Mare in the Cinque Terre, our favorite town in the entire area. The beach is a five minute walk away, hiking trails are endless, and there is shopping for those who are interested. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Hotel Souvenir to those interested in a clean, inexpensive place to stay.

This hotel/hostel was suggested by our friend Johnny who runs the yellow umbrellas on the northern beach, across from the train station. We had been staying in other hostels in Cinque Terre but he suggested that we MUST stay in Monterosso for at least a night. Of course, wanting to experience the best vacation possible we took his suggestion and stayed here. The place is ran by an old couple. The man is completely divine, speaks little English but is very willing to help. His wife however is a different story. She appears to hate customers but isn't around very often. She did however try and boot us out of our room to clean and hour before they asked, which we thought was weird. But as the story goes, she's a mean ol' batty woman....

The barista Megan, is American, and she is not only very helpful and makes delicious coffees but can give travelers a lot of helpful hints about the area and people.
We loved it here. It was clean, quiet and beautiful. And all for a good price.
