“Great view, spectaculous historic center, wonderful surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

The hotel is quiet posh, a very friendly receptionist, good room with a spectacular view over the countryside. Clean and well equipped rooms. Internet availlable for 10 euro (too expensive in our view so we didnt buy it).
The rooms are a bit noisy.... some woman in a room nearby ours had great night when we stayed here.
The breakfast, which we ordered in our room, is boring and without fresh toppings like cheese and no juice, but its sufficient.
The direct neighbourhood is nothing.. that explains it, there is nothing.
Urbino, the old city, is hidden in this desolated part of Italy and a lovely surprise when you get there. But it is not on walking distance from the hotel. There is a bus, but as we went by car, we have no idea if it rides and how much.
If you want to go to Urbino, this hotel is a good place to stay.

“Great stay”

Had a really nice time here. It's a pretty modern hotel, about three kilometres outside of Urbino. We had a car (plenty of space in the hotel car park) but only used it once to get to town as the bus service was so convenient – every 20 minutes, and about an eight-minute journey. The only thing you have to be careful with is coming back from town – the last bus is at midnight, but in the evening (I think from 8pm) there is only one bus an hour, so you have to plan for that. The reception can give you a copy of the bus timetable if you need it, and you buy tickets from a machine on the bus itself.

The hotel has rooms on two sides – one side has amazing views across the countryside, and the other doesn't! I would recommend booking directly on the hotel website as on other booking sites I didn't seem to be able to get a choice between room types in this way. The rooms with views are called 'business', and the ones without views are called 'superior'. The basic price list shows business rooms being more expensive, but when we booked they were actually cheaper. The rooms are quite often discounted in this way from what I can see.

The rooms themselves were very comfortable. They were pretty quiet at night, which is always one of the most important things for me, and very clean. Not everything was brand new and in perfect condition – for example, some of the fittings in the bathroom (e.g. taps) were slightly worn, and part of one of our net curtains (not the main curtains) was torn. This kind of thing doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I think people have probably made negative comments about the hotel on this site because of slight problems like that.

I thought the breakfast was very good. There was a selection of cereals, bread, pastries, cakes, yoghurt, and some meat and eggs. There is a coffee machine which is absolutely terrible, but the staff will make you proper fresh coffee if you ask. There is a restaurant/pizzeria in a building adjacent to the hotel – we ate there twice and were very happy with the food.

Overall a very good experience, and I'd happily return. Just a quick note about star ratings, as some people have said in reviews that this 'wasn't really a four-star' etc. Star ratings are based on facilities and prices – they are not a quality rating. So it is meaningless to say you expect better from a four-star hotel, or that hotel X isn't "really" four-star hotel. This is a four-star hotel as it has the facilities that make it a four-star hotel, and I personally have no complaints about the quality.

“Comfortable hotel”

Unfortunately the reason we stayed in this hotel was not planned and somewhat tragic. The hotel management obviously knew (I think the whole of Urbino knew) and were very discreet and obliging. Our requests and possibly our behaviour was may be a little bizarre but they met with them efficiently, even when we asked for tool kits, or when people were arriving unexpectedly very late at night. They have free internet discreetly in reception. They also handled some of our belongings that had to be couriered back home after we checked out.

I think that perhaps the fact that this hotel was chosen for us by some of the locals that knew our circumstances speaks volumes. I am not sure if it was coincidence but we virtually had an entire corridor to ourselves.

The rooms were comfortable, everything you need. Bar service, I am told, was obliging until very late into the night. Breakfast was extensive. There is a restaurant upstairs (use the lift) that is very popular with the locals, the food is good and the staff friendly.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel as a base for exploring the area. And I am grateful for their professionalism, if they could cope with us, I am sure they would be exemplorary for anyone else.

“Nice hotel.....good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2009

We were attending a wedding in Urbino and stayed here for 4 nights from the 4th to 8th of June. The hotel is about a 10min drive to the town. We had hired a car so I can't comment on the bus from the hotel. It was easy enough to get in and out of the town and the parking was not a problem around Urbino (€1 an hour).

The hotel itself is nice, reasonable rates, friendly staff, buffet breakfast. Only drawback is that there is nowhere to sit out and have a drink if the weather is nice. But overall would recommend the hotel.

“Great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2008

Arrived after a long drive from Chianti over winding roads. Warmly welcomed by the front desk staff and directed to our very comfortable, well appointed and warm room. Bathroom was luxurious and towels fluffy ( which seems to be unusual in some other hotels we visited) .
Pre dinner drinks in the bar were served with snacks and nibbles. We were directed to a restaurant in the hotel building , not run by the hotel. Food and service were first class and luckily we arrived soon after opening time as the room filled up with locals very quickly.
The Mamiani Hotel breakfast , served in the dining room, was very good with a great selection of fruits , cereals , breads and accompaniments.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended as a great hotel to visit the fantastic town of Urbino.
