“Classic Italian & we were well looked after”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2007

Holiday Inn it aint, but if you want real italy its great.

Approx 45 min to 1 hour from Fumicino it ain't Rome central.

Almost had the whole hotel to ourselves.

Upgraded to a suite despite booking on line and note a bit of Italain will go a long way here especially with the barman. Hotel restaurant has a very good menu and compares well with the village.

Located 800m from Tivoli center and a steep walk, not for the weak of mobility.

Staff were great an night staff even gave a lift up the hill one evening. Local english speaking taxi driver on hand who knows the local restaurants in the hills (Spadaro's).

If you want peace and quiet and no fussing try this hotel.

Saturday ....the weddings are great to watch but they close the pool for a few hours. Take an air freshener if you hate smokers...
If you visiting the Vila d'este stay here cause you need a whole day to see it all.

Like it so much we are going back!!

“Not the best, but not the worst”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2006

After becoming hopelessly lost driving in the town of Tivoli looking for the B&B we were supposed to stay in, the lady at the Tourist Information office recommended that we stay at the Torre Sant'Angelo Hotel as Tivoli had very few hotels to offer travelers. While the hotel looked lovely, perched on top of the hill overlooking the valley, something seemed really odd about the place.

We walked in without a reservation and they had two rooms left...we took the suite. The room was huge and while the decor was rather creepy, it was comfortable enough. The lady at the reception desk had reasonable English, which we were VERY happy about.

After settling in our room we went down to the lobby in search of a snack bar/bar...at 6:00 in the evening it was still not open, but we were told that a waiter would come take a drink order from us if we wait in the courtyard...we didn't have to wait long, which was nice, but two days later when we left the hotel, our empty bottles were STILL sitting in the courtyard!

The restaurant LOOKED rather intimidating, so rather than risking going to dinner under dressed we decided to order room service...I was thrilled that the room service menu had an "America Style Hamburger" on the menu...after 20-days in France and another 15 in Italy, I was READY for something familiar! I was not, however, prepared for what arrived...2-beef patties on a white plate.....end of story. No bun, no mayo, mustard, ketchup...no fixings, as one would expect from an "American" (or in my case, Canadian) style hamburger.....AND....it was 19 Euro!

The hotel has a lovely pool and pool area, and the weather was quite hot at the end of September while we were there, and not once did we see anyone use the pool or even sit near the pool...very weird!

Needless to say, we were happy to have a hotel to stay at; however, it certainly isn't worth the 4-stars they claim to have! Be prepared for a real lack of service at this hotel!

“Pretty location, inferior overall experience”

The experience of my boyfriend and myself was very similar to that of the person who wrote February 26, 2006. The hotel is in a beautiful spot with a wonderful view (and in the morning we could just make out St. Peter's, 27 miles away in Rome). But overall the experience was very disappointing. By the morning we left we were seeing some humor in the situation, but if we had had to stay more than one night we would not have been amused at all. Service from the desk staff was tepid at best, and like the Feb 26, 2006 traveller, we were told the hotel restaurant was unavailale for dinner; we were directed to a restaurant in the old part of Tivoli without any warning that parking anywhere in the vicinity was impossible. Back at the hotel, the shower leaked onto the floor. The leather portfolio that normally contains stationery and so on was empty. When we were running low on toilet paper we asked for more at the desk and were pretty well ignored. And the breakfast--well, it must be an ongoing comedy routine, because it was just as the Feb 26, 2006 traveller said. In fairness, the room was clean, and at some point someone had done a nice job of landscaping the place. Too bad the service was so drastically inferior to that of the four other hotels we stayed at in Italy, where the staff was unfailingly helpful.

“Very very very disappointing....”

We booked three nights in the middle of August long in advance, one week before arrival they informed us the restaurant would be closed (August is Italy's peak period)!
Upon arrival we got our rooms (suite and superior room). There were only few people in the hotel.
The suite still had dirty plates in the room, slices of watermelon on the terrace together with a broken wine glass and a dirty ashtray. The small safe did not work and was not screwed into the wall, you could just take it with you and leave.
The pool was dirty, we could see sand on the bottom of the pool. Keep in mind that it was August, not March or November, I'm talking high season!
Since the restaurant was closed, we asked the reception where to go. They gave us an address in the center of Tivoli and advised us to take a taxi since there were no parking spaces. In my opinion they could at least have paid our taxi (24 EUR) since their restaurant was closed in the peak period. But no...
Breakfast in the morning was a joke. This is what the waiter answered when we asked what we could have: "Euh, a glass of milk, some juice, water?" In the end we got 4 croissants and jam (eggs were out of the question since the restaurant was closed!). We asked for more bread and they told us it would take 30 minutes. That's when we decided to leave. We headed to the reception and checked-out (after one night instead of 3). They didn't even try to convince us to stay!
For a hotel with such prices the service was a disaster.

I stayed at Hotel Torre S.Angelo a few years ago with my family. We loved it. Hotel location, food and service was very good. Particularly room and inside of hotel was fantastic. If we go to Rome again, our choice will be Tivoli and Hotel Torre S. Angelo.
