After becoming hopelessly lost driving in the town of Tivoli looking for the B&B we were supposed to stay in, the lady at the Tourist Information office recommended that we stay at the Torre Sant'Angelo Hotel as Tivoli had very few hotels to offer travelers. While the hotel looked lovely, perched on top of the hill overlooking the valley, something seemed really odd about the place.
We walked in without a reservation and they had two rooms left...we took the suite. The room was huge and while the decor was rather creepy, it was comfortable enough. The lady at the reception desk had reasonable English, which we were VERY happy about.
After settling in our room we went down to the lobby in search of a snack bar/bar...at 6:00 in the evening it was still not open, but we were told that a waiter would come take a drink order from us if we wait in the courtyard...we didn't have to wait long, which was nice, but two days later when we left the hotel, our empty bottles were STILL sitting in the courtyard!
The restaurant LOOKED rather intimidating, so rather than risking going to dinner under dressed we decided to order room service...I was thrilled that the room service menu had an "America Style Hamburger" on the menu...after 20-days in France and another 15 in Italy, I was READY for something familiar! I was not, however, prepared for what arrived...2-beef patties on a white plate.....end of story. No bun, no mayo, mustard, ketchup...no fixings, as one would expect from an "American" (or in my case, Canadian) style hamburger.....AND....it was 19 Euro!
The hotel has a lovely pool and pool area, and the weather was quite hot at the end of September while we were there, and not once did we see anyone use the pool or even sit near the pool...very weird!
Needless to say, we were happy to have a hotel to stay at; however, it certainly isn't worth the 4-stars they claim to have! Be prepared for a real lack of service at this hotel!
