I wanted to find a nice, simple Italian restaurant that locals go to and that wasn't expensive. I think this fit the bill. It is up a hill from the Colosseum. It is well worth the walk. A small place that doesn't have fancy decor, but the owners are so nice and incredibly thoughtful. They have an antipasto bar with all kinds of strange (to me) selections on it. The pasta is homemade by "Mama" and it was wonderful. When we finished our meal, the son gave the 3 of us free shots of Lemoncello!! I always had wanted to try it and there it was!! It is much stronger than I thought it would be. We had such an enjoyable time at the Nerone (so named because it is so close to where Nero lived) that I would suggest it to anyone and it was not expensive at all. Probably our cheapest meal of the whole trip.
