“would recommend Monti to a friend”

We are a 30 year old couple, from New York, but have lived in Germany for nearly 1 year now. We booked this room for it's price and location. We have no regrets. The rooms are small as are the bathrooms. But, for this price we were excited to have a private bathroom! Regarding the size of the room, who really cares? We were visiting Roma and so were rarely in our rooms aside from showering and sleeping. The rooms were clean, the attendants were always nice and willing to speak English. Plus, every morning our breakfast was delivered to our room at our scheduled time. The Monti House is located in a quiet area, but it also seems to be a younger, hip area (it reminded us of a European version of NYC's Lower East Side). We were were less than 100m from several, inexpensive, restaurants that served excellent food.

Overall: very good quality for the price, great location, and problem free (but no parking).

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5: top floor (2nd floor) with a double bed and private bathroom/shower.

“We stayed in The Romantic Suite & it was lovely, we would go again!”

We stayed at the Monti guest house for 3 nights. We stayed in the Romantic suite on the top floor. It was plenty big enough with a double bed, small table with two chairs, ensuite bathroom & a private roof terrace just for our use leading off the bedroom.
The roof terrace was the main aspect to this room that made it amazing! You have views over looking the old Roman cobbled streets. It was the perfect place to have breakfast in the morning & to have a drink in the evening. The breakfast wasn't alot, we had a hot drink each, a pastry & some kind of bruschetta toast. So it wasn't filling, but it was ok. This would be served to our room in the morning at whatever time we decided. The bedroom was clean & the bed was remade every day. The bathroom was a little odd. The shower was quite small & the shower head & shower curtain were dirty, like they just needed some updating. & by the end of our stay the toilet had broken & wouldn't flush. This didn't bother us though as we just wanted to spend as much time exploring Rome as possible, so wouldn't be in the room for that long. But if I had to say one thing could be changed, it would be the bathroom. Don't let this stop you from staying at Monti though as our room was lovely & we really enjoyed it. I don't know what the other rooms were like, but I would definitely recommend the room we had. The person we saw on reception the most was a lovely lady, although I didn't get her name. She didn't speak much English, but I enjoy trying the different languages when I visit a different country. I wouldn't expect people to speak English for my sake. The location is excellent & is just around the corner from Cavour Metro. As the Metro links in Rome aren't that good (there are only two lines on the underground Metro) It was very handy to be right near a Metro stop. You have to be prepared to walk alot in Rome. The area we stayed was great for small little restaurants & we went to the one across the road a couple of times & the food & service were brilliant. Also, staying here you are around the corner from the Colosseum, & there was also an excellent restaurant oppsite The Colosseum where we ate on our last night. We would definitely stay here again. I have read bad reviews about this Guest house, but I don't understand what these people expect for the money. I am glad I gave it the benefit of the doubt & didn't pay attention to the bad reviews. Go with an open mind & you won't be disapointed.

Room Tip: The Romantic Suite, cool & not noisy at all.

“Fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2010

This is my second stay at Monti House and the rooms haven't got any bigger but they are clean! The breakfast has improved - coffee used to arrive in a plastic vending cup and now they are proper cups! The location, however, is fantastic. The Monti district has a wonderful village atmosphere and this in the heart of Rome within easy walking distance of the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain and a two minute stroll to some wonderful restaurants. If you require leather goods try Very Pel on via Cavour - I had a handbag custom made overnight - fantastic!

“would not stay there again”

booked one double and a single room, arrived to find a VERY small double room with no room to put the suitcase.
Bathroom unsuited for people with height or weight problems.
Due to very cold (for Rome) weather, the room was quite cold, and the heating was done with an A/C unit.
The single room had a darkened window, which couldn't be opened and NO heating.

Clerk was friendly, Cappucino was good, but breakfast could only be eaten sitting on the bed.

Only good thing was the close access to the Metro.

“I wouldn't stay there again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2008

the positive side was that the place was clean, the location was very good, we had plenty of hot water , the Manager was nice, and he made good capaccinos. However, the room was really tiny (3 ft at the side and foot of the bed), the window would only open part way, so a view was impossible, and the room could be stuffy. There was no dining area, so our "breakfast" was a tray with a croissant and coffee served in our room, and eaten sitting on our bed..

We had no trouble using our credit card.

  • Liked — manager and the location
  • Disliked — the price (100E), the tiny rooms, and the inept way of running the place
