“Highly recommended to travelers who want a more welcoming and friendly place to stay than a normal hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

I've been to Rome with a friend for a week.
I had almost never stayed in a B&B and this stay will certainly make me consider this type of accommodation in the future.

The owner does really everything in his hands so that you have a very good stay.

The location is perfect, as you can go around almost everywhere by walk (if you're not too tired) and is well served by bus lines as well.
The apartment is in a beautiful 19th century apartment building. The decoration successfully mixes modern and ancient items. It has 3 rooms (only one with en suite bathroom - for the other two, the bathroom is in the corridor - but this is not really an issue) and a kitchen.

Breakfast is self-service. You have a good choice of fresh and packed goods. You can make fresh coffee, eggs and you have namely ham, cheese and oranges at your disposal, besides good bread.

The cleaning lady is not friendly at all (even impolite), specially if you don't leave the apartment when/ before she arrives, so that she can be at her ease to do her work. It's true that we never managed to leave the apartment early enough... :-(
There is much noise coming from the street - but ear plugs are provided.

Well, our stay has been very pleasant and we can certainly highly recommend this B&B to travelers who want a more welcoming and friendly place to stay than a normal hotel.

“Good location, friendly host, but not so comfy”

My friend and I spent 4 nights there in May 2010. The location was central enough. Easy to get to from Termini on Bus 64. Giuseppe was friendly and eager to help. My friend didn't seem to mind that much but I hated our bathroom. It was a small makeshift one. It smelled bad, let me just put it that way. The shower had a very weak water pressure, which contributed to the worst hair days ever. We had self-service open kitchen. The bread was stale and the coffee was instant. There were espresso mocha pots but I wish I had a simple coffee machine or even filter for caffe americano! The room gets very noisy at night with constant siren, traffic, and yelling/ruckus. I guess it's what you get for 109 euro in Rome.

With transport at the door, near the Vatican is ideal for anyone who wants to see Rome. The host explains what to see, where to eat.

“Best Surpise in Rome !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

I almost don't want to write a review of this B&B so we can keep it to ourselves. It is in a great location - central Rome, walking distance to Vatican City and Novana square, very clean and roomy even with 4 kids in tow. There are three bedrooms, two baths and a kitchen are available in one apartment. The owner lets you in and then comes back in the morning to cook eggs and make coffee.

We ended up here during the Volcano disaster of Arpil 2010 - stranded in Rome, luckily a friend found this for us. The owner made room for us all and even helped us with his laptop to book train tickets to get back home. The building is beautiful and yes the cars can be heard from the 4th floor but it was not that noisey and did we did not have any problems sleeping in the very comfortable beds.

If you want perfect quiet rooms then go to a sanitised Hilton outside of the city center but if you want a nice time in an authentic Italian B&B, with a very friendly owner who brings fresh bed and cooks wonderful eggs then go to the Surprising in Rome !

“Felt safe and relaxed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2009

having booked over the phone we werenot sure what we were heading for as most places we tried were sold out for the dates.
We finlly settled for 'surprising in rome'. it really was surprising
to meet the friendly owner who came down at 07 am to show us the way to his 04rth floor flat. The room was comfortable and spacious and so was the bathroom. Though the decor could be better. The highlight was the owner's help in letting us know how
we should go about exploring Rome.
