“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2007

My Husband and I just returned from our first trip to Italy. We did some research and chose all of our hotels based on trip advisor reviews/location/pricepoint. The Locunda Senatorum was one of the better hotels we stayed in on our trip to Italy. We were there Sept 23-26 and Oct 6-7. 2007

The pros:

-unbeatable location. You step out the door and walk a block and you are at the Piazza Navona. Another block and you are at the pantheon. We walked to the Vatican, the colloseum.. everywhere!!!

-the hotel provided little touches that made our stay better. A pair of slippers, shampoos.. etc. After walking all day these little things came in handy.

-In comparison to other hotels we stayed in, the rooms were BIG!

-staff were very nice. We ordered a taxi through the hotel to pick us up from the airport and he ripped us off. Charged us 10 more euro than he should have. We complained and our return taxi fare was reduced. We would HIGHLY recommend arranging a taxi to/fro the airport. It isn't that close to the hotel and is a good investment to ensure you start and end your trip well.

CONS:

-NO STAIRS, the hotel is located on the 3rd floor. On a daily basis no problem but lugging your bags up and down took a toll on my husband.

-Overall fairly quiet, but our last night we didn't sleep at all because who ever lived the floor above us was up all night moving stuff around. For 150-200 euro, depending where you book, you should be able to sleep.

We'd go back again but wouldn't recommend it to those that can't do lots of stairs or lift things up stairs.

Ciao and happy travelling

“Nice hotel in rip-off Rome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2007

This hotel is a nice quiet retreat from the loud streets of Rome. It is in a good location about two blocks from the Pantheon. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our bed was more comfortable than most we stayed in and it was the only hotel in our three week vacation that had a bathtub. It is on the third floor and has no elevator. It has all the little amenities like shampoo, soap, minibar, hairdryer.
Just a note about Rome. It is full of thieves and liars. It is sad that in such a historical and religious city, there is so much crime. Everyone except the hotel, tried(and somethings did) rip us off. The taxi drivers, the waiters, the kids in the street. Even the old ladies tried to snatch our bag. It is really awful. The people there should be ashamed of themselves for the way they act. We learned not to trust anyone which is to bad since we did encounter a few honest people.
Although I do not think this hotel is worth 200 Euro a night, I think most of Rome is overpriced and I would recommend it due to the circumstances.

“Thumbs up for the Locanda Senatorum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2007

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Locanda before we joined a group tour. We booked the Locanda on Venere.com.
We were very impressed with this hotel. It was extremely clean, and had a beautiful, large travertine bathroom stocked with amenitites for our use. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner worked well, and there was free satellite tv and a mini bar with reasonable prices. We were also provided with slippers.
We were given vouchers for breakfast (or lunch if you prefer) at the Teatro Cafe around the corner. They served some nice pastries, and coffe or juice to us in the morning.
Perhaps the best feature of this hotel was the location. It was very close to the Piazza Navona, and the area was nice to walk around. The reception was extremely pleasant and helpful. Too bad the 4 star hotels we stayed at for the remainder of trip did not live up to the courtesy of the staff at the Locanda.
we arrived at the hotel too early for check in, but we were given a room to store our suitcases, and to freshen up in. We were also given a drink of cold water by the hotel reception before we headed off to explore.
The Locanda was up on the second (in Canada it would be considered 3rd floor), without an elevator, so this may be a concern for some.
Overall we were very happy with our choice of the Locanda Senatorum. You cannot beat it for location and price.

“Best location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2007

I stayed here for 5 days from 21 August 2007. I booked the townhouse from reviews on this site. My room was up another flight from the reception; 72 steps up and down to the ground floor-not for the faint hearted. The room was nothing like those advertised. It was very small, intended for 2 people, but that would have been impossible. There was no mini bar and no slippers. The two beds in the room were very narrow and end to end. Having said that, it was clean, the bathroom was fine and the air conditioning worked well. Shampoo and soap were provided.
The best thing about the hotel was it's location, between Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, both almost on its doorstep. The Campodoglio an Forum were 10 minutes away, so walking was a pleasure.
As a solo traveller I would stay there again for it's position.

“Great hotel, NO lift”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2007

I stayed at the Locanda Senotorum with 2 friends in June. I found all of my hotels based on the reviews on tripadvisor - it really helps when people post candid photos of the rooms along with reviews. As we all know the hotels only post the really nice photos! I really liked this hotel - it is small and the only downfall was no elevator. It's on the second floor, but anyone that knows Italy knows that the second floor is actually the third floor. Four flights of stairs with tons of luggage is not fun. However, that aside, here is my review:

If you choose to stay here have the hotel book your airport transfer for you with their service - you will save about 25 euros because taxi drivers will try and rip you off (it's about 45 euros through the hotel). The hotel was WAY more reasonably priced than the other hotels I looked at, and believe me I looked at close to 100 in different parts of town.

We arrived late and they had left a note on the door telling me to pick up my keys at the hotel below. Our room was immaculate and there was definitely enough room for 3. The bathroom was large which was a bonus (although the shower door provided good water leakage). As the reviewer before me noted, the mini bar was a good deal and came in handy. The pay per view movies ARE free and you can get them in English, if you select the option for English before you select the movie. There was a safe and a pleathora of toiletries including toothbrush kits and shampoos. They provided ample towels, slippers, etc. They also offer a free continental breakfast (read - coffee, pastry) at a cafe down the road and around the corner which is a great way to people watch while you wake up.

The hotel is SUPER convenient to everything. Its right off the Piazza Navona and close to major attractions, including the Pantheon, Campo di Fiori, etc.
It's a slight walk to the number 64 bus which takes you to the Vatican and just past the 64 you can catch the red 110 bus which is a good double decker to see the city. The hotel recommends a green bus which I don't think covers the best sites, especially if this is your first time. However, the red bus ticket is only valid from 8am to 8pm so consider that if you are riding.

Oh and for those looking for an amazing restaurant that is not too expensive try Grappolo d'Oro Zampona near the Campo di Fiori.
