“Worst B&B ever!”

After staying in ‘Casa di Iginia e Paolo’ for 4 nights, we would not recommend this B&B to anyone. Our overall experience has left us disliking Rome as it ruined our trip due to a number of negative reasons.
Our first impression of the room was that it was far from the glamorised photos used to promote the B&B. The room was far too cramped with just enough room for two people and their suitcases. The walls were filthy, furniture damaged, door frames coming away from the wall and plenty of mould and rust in the shower. There was also dangerously exposed wiring. Another problem with this poorly run guest house was with an extremely rude and dishonest owner named ‘Paolo’. On their website it claims that the owners spoke English, although not expecting perfect English, when we had a problem he always claimed to not understand although previously speaking in English. He was never there and could only be contacted through reception, as he never answered his mobile phone. The owner did not want to honour some of the entitlements listed as facilities offered by the B&B and got very angry when questioned. Reception hours were very limited and never open when they said they will be. The staff on the reception tried to be helpful but did tell us that they did not care if we missed our flight and got stuck in Rome.
We only could have wished we had seen reviews before booking this B&B as other reviews are similar and no one should have to experience this on any trip or budget.

“Just perfect, nice staff, convenient and clean!”

My spouse and i, have just returned from our 6days stay in Rome. We stayed at Casa Iginia e Paolo, which was a nice bed and breakfast for those who want to visit the Eternal City... We stayed at room number 14, which was nice and clean with all the necessary staff/equipment for a convenient stay. Soft double bed, a TV, a small but ok, fridge, and mainly, a clean private bathroom... The breakfast was rich, and the staff, so friendly! We had new towels every 2 second day, and that was ok... the atmosphere was friendly, and the accommodation seemed to be recently, restored and refurnished!
Absolutely, we would recommend it!

Thanks for having good time in Rome,
Casa Iginia e Paolo

“Wouldn't recommend it to anyone”

We stayed at the Casa di Iginia e Paolo during the Easter week-end in 2010.

We really didn't enjoy our stay there for the following reasons :

- the room we had didn't look at all like the pictures on the website.
- the room was extremely small (not enough space to have our suitcases open...), dirty (the wall were full of black marks) and extremely old fashioned.
- the room laked of fresh air and was kind of damp, as there was no window
- the towels were not changed every day but every two days which they should have told us before (we put our towels on the floor the first morning and they were back on the towel rack the next day ... not very nice...) the towel at the bottom of the shower was never changed in the 4 days we were there.
- the bathroom looked like it was not finished
- the walls are paper thin. We could almost follow the conversation of the people in the next room.
- the breakfast was extremely simple, to say the least, with some old cornflakes, milk, a pack of industrial toast bread from some discount shop, coffee and tea which didn't taste good.
- in the morning, the owner put the music as loud as possible to get the customers out of there so she can clean the rooms. When I am on holiday, I don't always want to be out of my room by 9.30 and I certainly don't want to be told when to get out by the owner!

The only thing we like about it is the location. It's from walking distance to the Spanish Steps, which is what attracted us in the first place. Maps don't lie so it was indeed next to the Spanish Steps. At least one thing we didn't get disappointed about...

In a nutshell, this place looks more like a bad youth hostel and for 83 euros a night, I think it's a rather expensive one! I definitely would not recommend this place.

“Fabulous Low Budget Find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2010

This is not a fancy hotel, it is a legitimate Rome B&B. The room was spacious and clean, we had our own bathroom which was also clean. The staff was very friendly, calling to make us reservations at Galleria Borghese (which was sold out, make your reservations weeks in advance), letting us use their computer, and putting on a decent breakfast. From the Termini we took a short bus ride, walked two blocks and arrived. It was a short walk to the train station - good location. This is not the place to stay with children, but for a couple it was great!
