My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in September. We arrived at the apartments an hour earlier than we indicated to Simone. We had difficulty contacting him on his cell, but luckily he arrived early to meet us, so we only waited 30 minutes on the street. He brought us into the apartments that we thought we were staying at. He did some paperwork. 10 minutes later he took us across the street to a beautiful cathedral that also operated as a B&B, called Domus Sessoriana. We then spent another 5 minutes checking in here. Both Simone and the front desk employee at Domus Sessoriana were very welcoming and polite, but needless to say my husband and I were a bit confused with the change of location, and very tired from our 9 hour flight. The employee at DS told us the total charge for our 4 night stay - 40 euros cheaper than the amount quoted on expedia. Then Simone and him had a lengthly and heated conversation in Italian. After their discussion, the DS employee stated that an additional 40 euros cash needed to be provided to Simon. Because it was the amount we expected to pay, we were not concerned about the price, but in hindsight we could have saved a lot of hassle and 40 euros had we just booked direclty with Domus Sessoriana. Because their check in operates 24 hours, we would not have had to wait on the street corner in the hot sun for Simone. It seems like we paid more to be inconvenienced. Simone was very nice, professional, and helped us to our room with our luggage. He also reminded us to call him if we needed anything during our stay.
The rest of my comments are about Domus Sessoriana. Definately great value for money. The service was great at the front desk. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. They helped us book reservations for museums, and gave us some tips on the neighbourhood. The room was very clean. We did not have access to a kitchen as indicated on the Caty B&B sight, but had a generous and fresh breakfast every morning. Breakfast included cold meats, cheeses, fresh crossiants and breads, cakes, juices and coffee. The location was perfect - away from a lot of the touristy sights and crowds, and easy access to 2 metro stations - 7 minute walk. There is a great cafe and bakery across the street (beside Cat B&B), and some great restaurants in the neighbourhood. The bed at Domus Sessoriana was not the most comfortable.
For value for your money, location, safety, and service, we would recommend Domus Sessoriana to anyone looking for an economical stay in Rome away from the crowds.
