“Would still be a dump at half the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

Mr Johnny was gracious enough. His Italian/English is nearly passable; but, his kindness makes up for it.
The room was spacious and grand. However, upon closer inspection, a little maintenance would elevate this dump from falling-apart to rather charming and quaint. Its appearance (and, location) ought to be "elegance"...however, it is in need of repair and attention. Dirty light switches; missing bulbs in lamps; "disco-fridgette" (light in fridge was a constant blink); bathroom light fixture was hanging from wires and caused one of the only bright bulbs in the whole room to "twitch"; drawer on armoire broken of hinges; keys to wardrobe falling out and off; a/c was good(!); shower was crazy and dirty.
For us, it was an adventure. However, I cannot recommend it in its current state. It has incredible potential if only the owners would recognize it.

“Very Over Priced; OK location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2010

We paid Euros 160 per night from bookings.com for this place. It was WAY OVER PRICED for the rooms we got. We stayed 3 nights at this B&B. It's a stone's throw away from the Barberini subway station, but it's an uphill walk - not very good if you have lots of luggage. We had emailed the B&B asking for directions a couple of days prior to arrival but there was no response. Nonetheless we managed to find out way there. They have an indian man (from Chennai) manning the reception on the days were were there, so not much help regarding local knowledge and recommendation. Rooms were big, but noisy as the rooms we had had windows facing a main road and a club down the road. Breakfast was extremely disappointing expecially for the price we paid - croissant came in a bag. We paid less for rooms in Venice and Florence and we had fresh bread and croissants daily! Hot water was very inconsistent - you get it hot then cold then hot then cold without having to adjust the tempreature. Rooms look nothing like in the picture.

“Had some issues with this place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2009

While the host is very gracious and the B&B location is pretty good, we had some issues with the condition of the room. Our sheets had a blood stain on them, the towels were very small (not much larger than a hand towel), the toilet was constantly running, and the door creaked VERY loudly. We also had an issue in checking in. The host knew what time we were arriving, so I expected no issue in checking in. However, when we arrived, there was no answer at the front gate or door. No one answered the phone. Another guest of the B&B happened to come out and had a different telephone number. Ended up waiting one hour for someone to show up. Breakfast is so-so and is delivered to your room.
Not really a good value, and I would look to stay elsewhere before returning to Commodus.

“Really enjoyed the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2009

A friend had told me about this B&B that just opened. Liked the location and also had a deluxe superior room. Huge room and great bath - all new with separate shower/tub. I had a door between the hall/bathroom and the bedroom which made my room feel very private and quiet. High ceilings and the building is beautiful. A few minute walk to the bottom of Via Veneto and a 15 minute walk to so many key sites/shopping. I did get a chance to see other rooms and they are all nicely decorated, high ceilings and new bathrooms. The B&B is on the second floor and felt that it had good security and it also had an elevator. The Manager, John is friendly and accommodating. A few restaurants within the same block and also a small grocery store on the street behind the building. I would definitely recommend this B&B to friends.

  • Liked — Large room and bathroom
  • Disliked — They do not have a sit in breakfast room (told me that they will soon).
