“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

Start off by saying...it'd be best if you knew how to converse fluently in Spanish or Italian to be able to communicate with the owner, Mario. I understand Spanish, but can't really converse, but my buddy could, so that made our stay a little more tolerable. Mario though - TREMENDOUS host and owner. Could not have asked for a nicer guy, despite my language barrier with him. His kindness certainly transcends spoken language. Anyway, BBIG was very clean, very well kept, and very spacious, even for the 6 of us(only my buddy and I knew each other) who stayed there during my 3 nights. Probably a 10 minute walk to the Cornilia metro stop in 1 direction, another 10 minute walk in the other direction to a taxi stand, and bus stops all along Via Gregorio. Great pizza shops within walking distance, all in the very nice neighborhood surrounding BBIG. And a laundromat. Which came up huge when we arrived. If there is any downside, it's not about BBIG itself, it's just that where it is...is not really central to the "action" of Rome. But if you want to stay in a nice, quiet neighborhood, then this is the place to stay(not sure why everyone is complaining about street noise...if you're a proper tourist in Rome, you come back here and just pass right out and sleep through everything!!)
Yay Mario!!

“not good”

For me the worst accomodation, in the description many unclear things:
First trouble we had while booking. Mario asked for credit card number as guarantee (ok) and CVC Number - which I have refused.... If you give someone these both information, anyone can use your credit card! So be careful!

This accomodation is a flat in block appartment. You have to call Mario to come and open the house and flat for you.
Mario really doesn´t speak any english, in our case he didn´t even try, so we had to catch his italian, which was quiet hard after the journey (we do not speak italian). The bedroom was really small, the flat itself is ok, balcony good but you cannot sit outside because it is so laud from the main street- even in the late evening.
The breakfast is really poor - milk, juice, coffee, cornflakes, jam, biscuits - that is it. For the money I would really expect some fresh bred at least...
The biggest shock was when we have realized there is bathroom to share for two couples (third room was not occupied) and however there is the second bathroom in the flat - "super Mario" kept this locked. IfI would knew before, I would never book appartment with shared bathroom!!!

In my opinion the appartment is overpriced - responding to a guesthouse for max 20 EUR.
I would deffinitely not recommend to my friends.

“Comfortable and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

I Giramondo is one of 22 apartments at 9, Via Carlo Zucchi (which is the block directly on the corner of Carlo Zucchi and the main road, Via Gregorio VII). The apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a good kitchen and a spacious living room which leads on to the balcony. Everything is comfortable, clean, in good condition, and well equipped (the kitchen lacks pans in which to cook – though it has most other things you might need). The host is lively, very good-natured, was specially helpful to us, and is clearly appreciated by the other guests who’ve left comments in the book. Each evening, a simple breakfast tray is left for each room; the fridge has milk, juices, butter etc for guests to share; there’s also ground coffee, tea etc etc.
One bus takes you past the Vatican to a square from which you can catch another into central Rome. A metro stop (‘Cornelia’) is about 15 minutes walk away (quite a way if you’re dragging a case or two). I’d suggest the best way to get to the B&B is to catch bus 64 or 40 from Termini station to ‘Via Paolo’ then catch bus 881 or 98 or 46 from there, getting off on Via Gregorio VII when you see a little yellow ‘Agip’ petrol station on the left hand side; cross the highway and walk about 150m (in same direction as bus) to Via Carlo Zucchi.
A few notes: we failed to find a single English language channel out of several hundred on the TV (if you’re French, ‘France 24’ is channel 893); the host speaks almost no English, but we managed to communicate very well despite that!
Our stay was comfortable, although nights were sometimes interrupted by traffic noise – Via Gregorio VII has six lanes which are very busy with heavy traffic through the day; this tails-off at night, but not completely (and Rome police/ambulances use their sirens at all hours). Our ‘rating’ for I Giramondo would certainly be higher without the noise issue.

“Super Mario :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at this B&B, especially because of Mario, the owner, who was extremely helpful and funny and always there with a good advice. If we were to go back to Rome, we would definetly stay here again: the Vatican was just a stroll away, the Metropolitana as well, and we discovered a great restaurant near us, the Wine Bar. Grazzie Mario!

“SUPERMARIO”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

Mario and Luisa could not have been more helpful! If you want a fabulous, spacious, elegant apartment, quite close to the Vatican and all the historic sites, then this is the place for you.
I Giramondo is unobtrusive, being located in a block of apartments, but you are right there amongst the wonderful Romans and two blocks down the street is a marvellous Café.
The staff (It's family owned and run) are really friendly and accommodating - we could get breakfast there from €7 or €8 (FOR TWO).
I have to say that, taking nothing away from Luisa, Mario really does go the extra mile and I would recommend I Giramondo to anyone.
