“Good value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

I’d like to thank hotel Serapo for the good time spent in Gaeta.
First of all, I will note its successful location: on the one hand it is in immediate proximity from a beach, on the other hand it is constructed directly at a mountain Monte Orlando foot, not to visit which, if you are in Gaeta, would be, at least, strange. Also the city center is just 15-20 minutes by foot. Walking along a beach it is possible to find some small restaurants with excellent kitchen and reasonable prices. Also there are several food shops nearby (within 15 minutes on foot at least 3 of them, nice pasticceria and the shop trading technique where it is possible to buy a Wind Sim-card or to pop up your phone balance.
The bus from Formia does a stop near the hotel, it’s quite convenient too.

Our rooms were quite good. The size of rooms was quite standard, it was light, very clean, with good convenient beds, balconies, capacious cases, and even with a window in a bathroom  However, it was not a sea-view room, it was overlooking a courtyard and a mountain so there was any smells from kitchen reached sometime.

The hotel personnel were very kind and friendly. At arrival we were have shown the way to our rooms, and were helped to take our suitcases into them. They answered to all my hundred questions patiently, gave advice about nearest shops and restaurants when it was required.

About a food. A breakfast is quite poor. Bread, butter, jam, croissants, some fruits, muesli, tea and coffee. That was enough for me, but some people were really disappointed.
In the restaurant of the hotel it is possible to take a supper (25 euro in September 2010) The choice is good and all is tasty. You can order A la Cart as well.
Well, finally about the beach. For me, there was no news that sun beds and umbrellas on the beach for an additional fee. Entrance to the beach, use of changing rooms, toilets and showers are free, but beach equipment must be paid. Cost 5 euros for sunbed and 7 euros for parasol a day (summer 2010).
There is a Wi-fi in the lobby of the hotel. And it works, which is nice - for free.

Good value for the money.

“No idea what customer service is...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2009

Like the review says ..the 2 guys at the front desk..with the glasses sitting on their noses...
they should be out working on a farm ..away from other humans..
The hotel is very outdated and dirty..
The customer service is the worst that I have seen..they could care less.
No one acted like they cared..for us it was just a hard bed to stay on and we will not be back.

“Comfortable hotel overlooking the beach and the gulf”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2009

This hotel has a nice location, behind the hill of the old town, with a nice view over the beach (private beach for guests) and the sea, but looks a bit "oldie" in its furnitures, both in the common and private areas.
There is A/C but it didn't work when we stayed there. Rooms are pretty spacious, comfortable, most of them with balcony.

“Hot and Hidden”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2009

Nice beach, great views from room, walking distance to city square, shops and chow. Entrance is hidden on a blind cul de sac, hard to find check-in area. Parking was a nightmare. A/C did not work and bed was like a stiff military cot. Can't recommend this hotel, as we checked out at 4 AM after we could not sleep.

“Good price but watch out for the restaurant rip-off”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2008

Hotel Serapo is pretty good value, considering its prime location on Serapo beach. I haven't found many hotels with such a good beach for this price. It has the feel of a 4 star hotel in some areas. Our room had been recently done-up, although it did have a shower leak which tended to flood the floor. The staff were largely friendly. Gaeta itself is fairly dreadful for restaurant food. So we had a few meals in the hotel restaurant and were amazed when we got our bill. They charged over 100 Euros for a small dinner for 4 (including 2 children) where we only had a bottle of "house" wine. If you don't book half or full-board they will sting you for any restaurant bookings and still make a big fuss as though you are a real pain! So be warned: ask for the bill at each meal. Having said that, this was the healthiest place we could find to eat. Eating out in this area of Italy is about pizzerias and snack bars serving junk. You'd be better off self-catering and enjoy shopping in the gorgeous butchers and bakers along the Via Dell'Indipendenza.
Another problem with this hotel is that they don't provide any information unless you ask for it. You really have to make an effort. It is really set up for Italian package holidaymakers and they are noticeably trying to attract the new Russian tourists. You won't find many other people here, which wasn't a problem for us, but might be for some.

  • Liked — Relaxed feel
  • Disliked — Being totally ripped off in the restaurant and made to feel like a pain by the Maitre'd
