“not worth the price even at 90 euros”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

I will start off with a positive. The hotel is in a great location in Gaeta.

However, the hotel is in bad need of updating. The beds are saggy, the furniture chipped, the hotel is very dingy. The breakfast consisted of very little food for tons of people. Nothing hot, no cheese or protein.

The bathroom has a very unusual and inconvenient shower system. There were dead mosquitos on the walls.

The parking is very difficult. Drive 20 miles north and stay at the Virgilio in Sperlonga.

Room Tip: go somewhere else, unless this is the best you can afford, then it wont seem so bad

“needs a good lot of renovation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Ok, the overall feeling was 'old'. This venue should have been great in the 70's but since then probably they never did any renovation job. The staff was somehow non-interested in customers (depending on the single person). I found a burned lamp in the room and a broken hot water tap. The tap was repaired, the lamp not. Moreover I found some ants in the bathroom. The room was overall dark. Breakfast was not anything relevant, if not mediocre, and the food at the restaurant I can classify as 'standard tourist italian menu', so nothing special. Wi-fi was free but only available in the hall. Unacceptable in 2011.
Definitely not a good value for the money.

Room Tip: Choose another venue.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

At the end of the main avenue, the hotel is at the base of a cliff upon which is a monastery. Our balcony looked out over the lawn and sea, with a view of the cliffs above.

Gaeta is a port city with a large harbor on one side, a forested park above, and the sea on the other side. The beach is beautiful, and there is a bar adjacent to the hotel beach where you can get cold beverages, sandwiches, and snacks. Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent from the hotel vendor or the bar.

This was a great spot to watch people on the beach, and there were many. The water was almost warm when we were there, which was definitely not the case in the hotel pool, which was not open yet for the season.

The monastery is well worth visiting, whether you drive to the top or take the trail.

We spent two nights in Gaeta. The first night we had dinner at the hotel, which was good. The second, pizza at a restaurant on the town square during a food festival.

The hotel included free wifi in the lobby, free parking, and continental breakfast. It was quiet, even with a live-music bar just around the corner.

Be ready for fireworks - they seem to come at odd times throughout the night, as the residents like to celebrate important events.

“Good value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

I’d like to thank hotel Serapo for the good time spent in Gaeta.
First of all, I will note its successful location: on the one hand it is in immediate proximity from a beach, on the other hand it is constructed directly at a mountain Monte Orlando foot, not to visit which, if you are in Gaeta, would be, at least, strange. Also the city center is just 15-20 minutes by foot. Walking along a beach it is possible to find some small restaurants with excellent kitchen and reasonable prices. Also there are several food shops nearby (within 15 minutes on foot at least 3 of them, nice pasticceria and the shop trading technique where it is possible to buy a Wind Sim-card or to pop up your phone balance.
The bus from Formia does a stop near the hotel, it’s quite convenient too.

Our rooms were quite good. The size of rooms was quite standard, it was light, very clean, with good convenient beds, balconies, capacious cases, and even with a window in a bathroom  However, it was not a sea-view room, it was overlooking a courtyard and a mountain so there was any smells from kitchen reached sometime.

The hotel personnel were very kind and friendly. At arrival we were have shown the way to our rooms, and were helped to take our suitcases into them. They answered to all my hundred questions patiently, gave advice about nearest shops and restaurants when it was required.

About a food. A breakfast is quite poor. Bread, butter, jam, croissants, some fruits, muesli, tea and coffee. That was enough for me, but some people were really disappointed.
In the restaurant of the hotel it is possible to take a supper (25 euro in September 2010) The choice is good and all is tasty. You can order A la Cart as well.
Well, finally about the beach. For me, there was no news that sun beds and umbrellas on the beach for an additional fee. Entrance to the beach, use of changing rooms, toilets and showers are free, but beach equipment must be paid. Cost 5 euros for sunbed and 7 euros for parasol a day (summer 2010).
There is a Wi-fi in the lobby of the hotel. And it works, which is nice - for free.

Good value for the money.

“No idea what customer service is...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2009

Like the review says ..the 2 guys at the front desk..with the glasses sitting on their noses...
they should be out working on a farm ..away from other humans..
The hotel is very outdated and dirty..
The customer service is the worst that I have seen..they could care less.
No one acted like they cared..for us it was just a hard bed to stay on and we will not be back.
