“great views but not my favorite hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We came to Capri after our stay at Le Sirenuse in Positano. We had heard great things about the hotel - but were a little disappointed once we arrived. It might have been that we had just left such a great hotel, but Punta Tragara just doesnt have the charm that a European hotel should have. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to have a big room (we were in a suite) and bathroom, but the decor sort of made you feel like you were in a modern NYC hotel.

On a positive note, the view and location are beautiful. The pool area is very pretty looking down onto the Fragiolini rocks. We ate at the restaurant one day for lunch and thought the food was quite good and you cant beat the view.

The location is nice too - its about a 5-10 minute walk outside of town - but a nice, easy walk.

All in all - it is a nice hotel but it isn't the quaint charming place we were hoping for.

“Wonderful experience and stunning views”

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel in late September and it was a wonderful experience. The views are stunning! The hotel itself is lovely both inside and out. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the concierge was helpful. We stayed in the double deluxe room which was worth it for the private balcony with sea view. Our room was immaculate and modern, comfy, and very quiet. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the cocktails made at the pool-side bar. The spa treatments were top quality and despite a time mix-up on their part they were accommodating to fix it. Everything about our experience at this hotel was perfect- not a single complaint! We chose to walk from the funicular piazetta to the hotel when we arrived which was an easy and pretty 10-15mins. For the return we took a private boat tour around the island which was set up by the hotel and dropped us off at the ferry port.

“Terrible Service, Unacceptable Attitude and not Five Star Luxury Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

people found this review helpful

My husband and I visited Punta Tragara for the second time after three years. You will see my review for our last stay. We are so sorry that this wonderful and beautiful hotel is run so poorly.
The rooms, the view and the location is magical. The best in Capri, however it's run like a two star hotel. First of all, the staff at the pool, breakfast area and kitchen are so unprofessional and rude. They are all lazy and don't want to be there. For seven days in the row, we had the worst breakfast experience, they can not get the toast, tea and salt and pepper shakers at the table. Everything took for ever and most importantly, a five star luxury hotel which charges 1200 dollars per night should at least get their staff to learn what is toasted bread, butter and Jam in English. They have to have salt and pepper shakers as well sugar at each table. Every day, we had to ask for each of them one by one.
They missed all that, every day, breakfast, snacks and lunch was late and messed up. They keep on saying it's coming but it's never on time.
You ask for something in your room about five times, if you are lucky maybe on the following day, after aggravating yourself, calling the front desk over and over, you will get the towel you were asking for. The wine glasses and the ice bucket never made it to our room.
The guys in the whole hotel are laaaaaaaaaaaaaazy, rude and untrained. The hotel manager, is a stock up, arrogant man who just sits in the back, eat his meals at the restaurant like a guest and he doesn't even care what is going on in the hotel.
No wonder, everyone stay at the Villa Brunello and Hotel Quisisana, because their service and their staff are so so amazing. For example, Villa Brunello, is run by loving people like Lugi the owner and Dominico, the key holder of the hotel and the restaurant, take care of you like their own family. They make you feel so great and welcome. They are much older hotels and definitely don't have the furnishings and the views of Punta Tragara, but the service and their terrible attitude bring tears to your eyes. The two arrogant, rude guys at the front desk make you so unwelcome, the whole staff have missed out the customer service, attitude and greeting of the guests at a five star luxury hotel. Unacceptable, Unacceptable, Unacceptable.
Trust me, you don't want to stay here.

“Great stay at Punta Tragara”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Arrival: We stayed at Punta Tragara for 3 nights. Arrived in Capri and my girlfriend and I were greeted by the porter after getting off of the ferry. After a quick taxi ride up some streets followed by a 20 minute walk, we finally arrived at this beautiful hotel. I'll say this: the view cannot be beat. It's a stunning location (also, it's a great launching point to hike the island). The hotel front desk clerk greeted us and checked us in efficiently. She was very pleasant. Our bags were waiting for us in the room. Aces. Grade: A+

Room: We stayed in a bright, airy junior suite with a massive terrace (the outdoor space nearly equaled the square footage of our room) situated at the corner of the hotel. The terrace was great for sunbathing and outdoor dining. Room finishes/furniture were fantastic. We had a massive closet. The bathroom was beautifully finished and HUGE. My only complaint: The shower stall was weirdly undersized. I'm 6'0 and 175. I could barely move around the shower stall without hitting my elbow or hand on the glass. It was the size of a large phone booth. (My girlfriend, much smaller than I, had similar issues) Grade: B+/A- (points lost for phone booth sized shower stall)

Dining: We never ate dinner or lunch in the hotel's restaurant, so I can't speak to the quality. We did eat breakfast at the hotel every morning, and it was great. The fruit was fresh and the pastries were delicious. Cheese and various cold cuts were also available. Grade: A

Check-out: Check-out was a poor experience and the reason this is 4/5 instead of 5. The front desk clerk was borderline rude. When I asked him a few simple questions about how our bags would be brought down, he huffed and answered condescendingly, visibly rolling his eyes in an instance. They weren't dumb questions, but even if they were, it was unacceptable behavior from someone working in hospitality, and certainly not if that person is working in a place like Punta Tragara. Grade: D (being charitable)

Overall: We had a great stay, and would definitely consider staying there again if ever in Capri. Many have complained about the value for money. It isn't great at Punta Tragara, but then, nothing in Capri really is.

Room Tip: Request a room with a large terrace

“This is nice.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

The lovely setting of Le Corbusiers design is the perfect frame for a getaway. We stayed there 4 days last summer, but not until we found the first more moderately priced choice unacceptable. After all, would you prefer to remember your holiday for the savings? It IS a costly affair, but I must admit; worth it. Very kind people and stunning setting gives you a wonderful stay. We'll be back.
