“Wonderful place to base a Basilicata region exploration”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

After a two and half week trip exploring Rome, Amalfi Coast and Sicily we stayed three nights at La Dimora dei Cavalieri to quietly relax and enjoy (need car) the region before our trip home. We were treated like royalty with great service, spacious and comfortable rooms and wonderful food. Angelo and his staff were very gracious and could not do enough for us as we explored the region. Matera, a must, is a very scenic easy hour drive away. The Sunday afternoon meal is a memorable occasion with not only fabulous food but allowed the opportunity to meet his extended family and friends. This is what travel is all about. Highest recommendation.

“Great, relaxing place to stay..and the food is to die for..!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

This is a hidden gem of a place. This a great B&B run by a family who really care about what they do and how to treat /welcome their guests. I can confirm that the food is fantastic and the family take great pride in serving locally sourced produce and dishes that are homemade.

Just like the food, the view from the dining area is exquisite as you watch the sun set while trying one of the many homemade liquors.

This place is great value for money and I'm already planning my next trip...! See you there.

“Warmth and hospitality abounding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Our party stayed at La Dimora for an amazing 2 nights in June 2010, as part of a 2-week trip in Italy. The stay was beyond our expectations! Upon our arrival, Angelo arranged a spot for us on the balcony with a beautiful panoramic view of the rolling hills of Basilicata, and proceeded with a private tasting of Aglianico wines. Each bottle was expertly paired with a local delicacy, like the house spicy sausage and local cheeses. After the tasting, we put our 10-month-old daughter to bed (La Dimora was extremely welcoming to young children) and were served a delicious 7-course dinner that was included in our full-board stay. The dinner was excellent - more food than we could eat! - with local specialties including fantastic homemade pastas and homegrown meats.

Angelo helped our party arrange tickets for the nearby "Flight of the Angels," which was unique, exhilarating, and gorgeous - a must-do in the area. When we returned to La Dimora, we were invited to share a very special occasion with his family and friends in the dining room. We were welcomed as members of the family and indulged in an amazing multi-course Sunday dinner, with more delectable local foods and wines. As we departed, Angelo's generosity continued as he gave us bread, wine and salami for our journey and escorted us on a private tour of the local museum, where a newly discovered self-portrait of Da Vinci was on display.

The location was beautiful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The meals were top notch, and the warmth and hospitality of Angelo, his family, and the local community of Vaglio Basilicata made us not want to leave! We hope to go back and visit this incredible farm, restaurant, and family soon.

“Highly recommended - do not miss this real italian gem !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

My husband and i stayed here for two nights during our recent holiday. This is one of those places that you will still be reminiscing about years later (and will definitely want to visit more than once). The food was fantastic, truly authentic with almost everything home grown or made, even the lovely light home made wine was made by the owner's grandfather (delicious !).

I have visited other agritourismos in Italy and this is without doubt one of the most authentic and genuine places, it was a real joy to come across such a fantastic place tucked away.

But what makes this place a cut above is not just the food but the welcome. Angelo, his sister and all the family and staff make you feel really welcome. Angelo even took us out to the town square in the evening (after our five hour sunday lunch !) for beers and introduced us to the rest of his family and the locals.

Not only is this one of the best places i have ever stayed from a cuisine and service perspective but it really is fantastic value for money. When we stayed it was only 120 euros per night for both of us for bed, breakfast, evening meal or sunday lunch and all your wine (and it was plentiful !).

If you do stay then make sure you go to see the flight of the angels even if you don't do the hire wire flight as the little town is only about 20 mins away is stunning and views amazing.

So downsides ?? - only that my trousers are definitely tighter and i think i put on half a stone in the space of 48 hours !! (even at breakfast Angelo tries to feed you up with fresh ricotta cheese and warm home baked cakes !)
