Our party stayed at La Dimora for an amazing 2 nights in June 2010, as part of a 2-week trip in Italy. The stay was beyond our expectations! Upon our arrival, Angelo arranged a spot for us on the balcony with a beautiful panoramic view of the rolling hills of Basilicata, and proceeded with a private tasting of Aglianico wines. Each bottle was expertly paired with a local delicacy, like the house spicy sausage and local cheeses. After the tasting, we put our 10-month-old daughter to bed (La Dimora was extremely welcoming to young children) and were served a delicious 7-course dinner that was included in our full-board stay. The dinner was excellent - more food than we could eat! - with local specialties including fantastic homemade pastas and homegrown meats.
Angelo helped our party arrange tickets for the nearby "Flight of the Angels," which was unique, exhilarating, and gorgeous - a must-do in the area. When we returned to La Dimora, we were invited to share a very special occasion with his family and friends in the dining room. We were welcomed as members of the family and indulged in an amazing multi-course Sunday dinner, with more delectable local foods and wines. As we departed, Angelo's generosity continued as he gave us bread, wine and salami for our journey and escorted us on a private tour of the local museum, where a newly discovered self-portrait of Da Vinci was on display.
The location was beautiful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The meals were top notch, and the warmth and hospitality of Angelo, his family, and the local community of Vaglio Basilicata made us not want to leave! We hope to go back and visit this incredible farm, restaurant, and family soon.
