“Great hotel, especially for the price, wonderful staff, ever so SLIGHTLY let down by a few minor points..”
Pros : Beautifully appointed, clean, spacious rooms, helpful, informative staff, location not far from Metro, affordable/reasonably priced, free breakfast*
Cons: slight wear and tear in bathroom, poor breakfast, gym completely dysfunctional, no English speaking TV channels (not even anyENglish speaking news programmes)
ROOMS
I want to start off by saying that I loved this aparthotel overall in spite of its flaws. This is because I rate the importance of nice rooms quite highly, and the rooms were well cleaned, very spacious for our family of four, and the furniture was large, of a high quality. The kitchenette was a nice off-white, steel-effect microwave (although we never used ours) - the room came together nicely.
The bathroom was beautiful also , lovely ceramic countertop basin, on top of wooden cabinet, small black mosaic tiling in shower (no bath, but that was fine with us) - portable shower head. The down side about the shower was that shower door only closed part of the way, so there was a huge gap and water sprays out onto the floor outside the bathroom - over time I could see that the bottom of the wall had sustained some water damage, and the bathroom cabinet also. Had they installed a proper shower door this would have been avoided altogether.
The room has "climate control" which I guess is the same as air conditioning - I found it was a bit difficult to master. Most of the time it was either blowing out hot air (not what you want in hot weather) or too cold. Took a bit of time to know how to get it to work well, but once you master it, it does the job.
LOCATION
The hotel is not in the centre of action, but it is about 5-10 mins walk away from a Metro station which gets you where you want to be. Hotel is also at bottom of a hill - I didn't mind because I feel I needed the exercise lol, but if you aren't too fit or good on your feet, it could prove tricky. Not many nice shops and restaurants in the area, you probably need to go central to see those, but there is a great Chinese restaurant about 5-10 mins walk from the hotel. Ask receptionist for Da-fa restaurant, if you fancy a break from paella and bocadillos lol
STAFF
Can't fault them. Helpful and friendly and family-centric. One lady in particular (my daughter reckons her name is Kelly, but I am not so sure) was really lovely with my children, gave them pencils and pictures to colour in, and lolly. How I wish I had taken note of her name, she was delightful. Overall they were all nice and informative.
OTHER FEATURES
Breakfast:
Disappointing. Consists of brown or white bread, butter or jams, tinned fruit, processed meats and salami- or processed cheese, plain yoghurt, tinned fruit, croissants and pain or chocolats. I would have killed for some fresh fruit, or a slice of bacon!! If I had paid extra for the breakfast, I would have wanted to get my money back - luckily I got it for free because I booked via the hotel website. When you have children, skipping brekkie is not an option sadly.
Gym
Very disappointing. It's in the next building, on the roof, which WOULD have been great if anything worked - but nothing did!! Except the free weights of course. And there is no-one there to help you figure it out, unless you want to go all the way down the stairs again and back to the hotel to ask the receptionist how to work the machines (which I couldn't be bothered to do).
Altogether I really enjoyed my stay - I would recommend this to anyone except someone who wanted to use a gym, or wanted to eat a hearty breakfast ha ha.
Room Tip: Book via the hotel website and breakfast is free!
