“A perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Not a lot we can add to the previous reviews. My husband, daugher and I stayed for 4 nights and were made to feel so welcome, nothing was too much bother. The owner regaled us with stories of the neighbourhood, my husband and I met here in 1963, we got the lowdown on restaurants which still existed and how he'd taken over his mother's hostal 7 years ago and renovated it. I must say a really good job, as one who remembers living here in the 60s!
The entrance is a bit daunting, that hadn't changed, but once you get in there it's very comfortable, we had a superior room overlooking the square, always plenty of life, the Municipal Police station there's as well so a very safe area.
The reception were extremely welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Worth paying a little extra for a superior room.

“Great location but not good for the light sleepers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed here in September in a double jacuzzi room. Loved the funky décor and the bed was very comfy. Bathroom was extremely small but clean and shower was great. Everyone on reception were really friendly and helpful and spoke good English. If you’re a light sleeper this isn’t the place for you though! Walls are paper thin and water system extremely loud. First time we used the jacuzzi a clump of hair came out of the air pumps (eww) so didn’t use it at all after that!! Other than that, excellent location and good value for money. Free wifi in the rooms was an added bonus.

“A delightful surprise and a lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Hostal Santo Domingo is set in the second and third floors of a large old building which also accommodates Hostal del Mar and Hostal Luna and is approached through a forbidding looking doorway either by a large sweeping stairway or a tiny lift. Inside it is a real surprise: modern and stylish with very well appointed if small rooms, but then this is in a prime location in a big city, with high quality decoration and furnishings. Talking with the owner he obviously takes great pride in the place and also in the levels of service. This is backed up by the helpful and very friendly staff who always have a lovely greeting of welcome. It would be hard to beat the place for the price. It is situated on Plaza del Luna just north of Callao metro on Gran Via so could hardly be more conveniently located. The area around is quite bohemian in nature but feels very safe and Plaza del Luna is a great social centre for the local inhabitants to walk, chat, play and exercise their dogs right in front of a local police station. Oh, yes, if you want to have a good value breakfast with the locals then Bar La Prenza on a side street on the way to Callao metro is recommendable.

“Great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Don't be concerned with the name "Hostal" if you're not looking for a backpackers spot, this feels like a true hotel. Located in a great area of Madrid, close to Metro, but a quick walk to most parts of town. The rooms are small, but very chic and modern. Comfortable bed, amazing shower, and communal computers if needed.

Overall, highly recommended.

“Amazing quality-price rate!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Stylish minimalist décor, rooms are well equipped with air con (essential to sleep during summer), nice shower, hair dryer and LCD TV. Internet connection was fast enough. Clean, clean, clean. Nice and helpful staff. Very close to all attractions in Gran Via, but also inserted in a real neighborhood. Love to come back!
