“Great location but very noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

Hostal Duermo has perfect location, service, cleanliness, value and has stylishly equipped rooms. The is only one problem that we found and that was the noise. If you get a room that is facing the main street be prepared that you won't get long uninterrupted sleep. The worst night was on Saturday evening. There was street noise till 4am.
I would recommend to call or email the Hoslat that you require a room that is facing the other side of the apartment. But if you don't mind the noise Hostal Duermo is the perfect location to stay.

“Great location but not so great a place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Arrived at the time we said we would to find no one there. This is a 'hotel' that is just rooms with no reception etc. After 15/20 minutes waiting, and a call to the UK to check my reservation, someone turned up. Rooms are very basic, which in itself is not a problem as bed was comfy. I had specifically asked for a quiet room but was given one right on the main street and the doors out to the tiny balcony wouldn't close properly so no chance of minimising the noise. And noise there was, all night. When it came time to pay I was informed that it had to be cash as the 'machine' had broken. Again, no problem if that had been budgeted for in the cash brought over but no one had informed me that it would have to be cash and so it took up quite a bit of my already budgeted cash flow. We had to stay on in the city and I found a hostel in the same building that had 24hr reception, towels (2 each no less), shampoo and soap already on the bed (Duermo only had liquid soap in the bathrooms and I had to ask for towels), a TV in the room and the room was much, much quieter with a door that closed properly. That was Hostal Abami and I would recommend that over Duermo. Cheaper too.

“a very good adress in Madrid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2009

We spent 2 nights in Madrid and really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is cheap and has a great location. Our room had a nice view and was very clean. The shared bathroom was clean but the water swinged between cold and warm frequently. On overall we wre very satisfied by the price-quality ratio, we even had breakfast and the hostress was very kind (but speaks only Spanish).

“Really good value, very friendly staff and located in a hip neighbourhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2009

Me and my wife stayed here for 3 nights. Its located in a safe area and there are a number of cool streets nearby for independent art/clothing and cheap (but super) eats!! Definitely a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Although Duermo is within easy reach of the centre by foot or by metro/underground.

The beds were comfortable! The rooms decorated in contemporary style and the walls painted with warm colours. Quiet area! So we could sleep!

Duermo is a great value pension style accommodation. The staff were very helpful and friendly - we were greeted with free bottles of mineral water and candy (much appreciated, in the heat). The free breakfast in bed was actually pretty good for the fact that it was free: toast, jam spreads, orange juice, apples, and good coffee.

There's good free wifi throughout the entire floor.

This is important: Remember to call them with your arrival time before you get there.

“Little gem in a big city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2009

We stayed at Duermo for two nights in July and we had a fantastic first trip to Madrid.
We were pleasantly surprised by the location and standard of the hostel, and who we perceived to be the hostel owner.
We arrived by rental car, and found the parking was only available in the payable meters on the street or the 24 hour underground carpark which charged 48 euros for between 1-2 days.

The hostel is located within walking distance of Chueca and Plaza Mayor, but there is also a metro right on the door step of the hostel, if you wish to travel anywhere else.
We found the immediate district surrounding the hostel to be fantastic and found ourselves staying in this area for both nights of our stay.

The room itself was pleasant, large, clean and had great views of the bustling street below. The only downfall with staying in the summer is there is no ceiling fan or air conditioning, which led to the room becoming uncomfortably hot by the afternoon.
The hostel owner was a very nice guy, who brings you a basic breakfast in bed at the time of your choosing.

In conclusion, a gem of a hostel in a great location that is value for money and well worth a visit. If we were to do this trip again we would definitely stay here again.
