“Great Value for the Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

We spent 4 nights at the Hostal Santa Isabel earlier this month. It's very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful (we arrived straight from the airport at 9:30 AM and were allowed to check in a short while later, as soon as a room was ready) and the location is very convenient. My only suggestion would be to request a room with an even number! We were in an odd-numbered room overlooking the street, which was incredibly, unbelievably noisy. On Saturday night the noise didn't wind down until 7 AM Sunday! I think the rooms across the hall overlook an inner courtyard and are probably much quieter. All in all, Hostal Santa Isabel is an incredible value for the money and I definitely recommend it.

“Very Good Hostal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

The hostal has a very good location (specially if your coming by train to Atocha station, like from Barcelona for example) and is convieniently located at a short walk from the Reina Sofia Museum as well as a subway station.

It is located on the 4th floor of a building, and has lots of shops in front. The value was great (EUR 70 per night for 3) and I definitely enjoyed my stay. Staff was really nice as well, specially the older man that stays in the afternoons!

The room wasn't big for 3 (although when we left, we got to see a bigger and nicer room for 3! maybe more luck next time...) but was perfect for a night's rest. It was spotlessly clean as well!

There were some minor issues, like for example, the walls are paper thin (really, if you are a light sleeper DON'T stay here... though that is not an issue with me) and you can hear almost everything everydobody else is doing! And for some reason, at night, the hostal would smell like cigarettes.... maybe the front desk guy smoked!

“Clean and modern hostal.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in September. The hostal is walking distance to all the museums, popular plazas, and subway stations. However, I am not sure how safe it is at night as my husband got pickpocketed on our first night. Despite this, the hostal itself was clean, modern, and the staff was friendly though they do not speak any English.

“Clean, safe, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

This is a small hostal, on the 4th floor of a building (ring bell to enter), with an antique but perfectly working lift. Note there are maybe 5 of so steps to reach the lift.

The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient, but just be aware they don't speak any English at all, so have your phrasebook handy! We didn't find this to be a major problem, though.

The rooms are decent sized, and probably better than what one would expect for the price paid. Due to it being in an old building though, there may be some plumbing issues - not major problems, just water taking a long time to drain and things like that. Some rooms face the street, which give better views but also more noise, so if you're a light sleeper, ask for a quieter room - we were too tired to let any noise keep us awake!

We had some hesitation booking it due to there being no English reviews at the time, but relied on the foreign language reviews and the help of google translate :) We now think this hostal should rank higher than in currently does.

“double room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2010

this hotel is very cute: the staff is very kind, the rooms are little but very comfortable, the price per night is excellent. The one thing I really didn't appreciate is that there weren't double beds, but only single beds put together.
