Been to this hotel three times, and I have loved it. Every time I am pleasantly amazed at the scenery. You can look over and see in the distance the dark, almost intimidating mountains of Africa, and you can see Spain just next door. The hotel itself is to the side of the Island, and overhanging the cliffs, so its like you are on the water. The decor is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, marble entrance floors, so shiny you can see your face in, and a piano sitting in the lovely restaurant overlooking the spectacular ocean views. Rooms are very confortable, the maid comes at night to tuck you in, and give you a mint I always chose to walk into the town, maybe a few miles away, that way you can witness normal life at its best and at its most normal, washing hanging out stretching overhead from one building to another, lots of cats, and erratic drivers. The town is gorgeous, very english looking, government buildings with guards dressed in their polished uniforms, lots of nice shops, which are all very cheap, all duty free, so smokers and drinkers take advantage. The airport is tiny, with a runway that starts and ends at the edge of the water, a mile long I think. Plenty of excursions, namely Gibraltar Rock, and the hundreds of Barbary Apes who roam around freely, careful if you have food or shiny things, they will grab them off you, they really are cheeky wee monkeys. An American tourist put his new shiny camcorder down for a second, and a monkey ran up, picked it up and threw it over the edge of the cliffs, one stole a multi pack of McCoys crisps from our tour bus and handed them out to his 'pals' and they were sitting eating them up, very funny, and very much like us in all their mannerisms, loved that tour, it is a must. There are supermarkets in the town, and a good taxi service. I used to go everyday to the Salvation Army lunch club, good predictable food, not that I was being tight, I just like to do my bit to keep these places open. I intend to go back to this 'not cheap' hotel. I would not stay anywhere else.
