We were staying in Barcelona for 4 days, and decided to spend a night in Sitges. I looked at various hotels online, and decided that The VeraCruz looked suitable. My judgement was based on the photos (which have the benefit of being taken on a sunny day) and the fact that the hotel was 3* (so should be the same level of comfort as the 3* hotel we had booked in the centre of Barcelona)

We found the hotel, and I instantly wanted to keep walking. It looked shabby, run down and very basic. But as we knew it held a 3* star rating, we assumed it couldn't be too bad inside.

We were given our room key and went up to the room.
The room was little short of a prison cell!! The double room booked comprised of two small single beds pushed together, a small tv in need of repair, and a lonely chair in the corner of the tiny room. The bathroom was not what i would expect of this rating hotel being tiny and very shabby. A feeling of complete depression washed over us!

I complained to the hotel receptionist and, after much trouble with the language barrier, moved to another room with a double bed. This room was larger, but only felt better as the original room was so awful.

We were very grateful that it was only for one night.
How this hotel has conned the ranking of 3* is beyond me!

There are many hotels to choose from in Sitges, so i would advise anyone making a trip to choose one of the other hotels available, and steer clear of the un-carpeted, shabby and unacceptably basic Vera Cruz hotel.

The Veracruz is the "sister" to hotel Capri, directly across the street, 2 blocks away from the Mediterranean. They serve a great breakfast every morning, there is a lovely pool, rooms are air conditioned and have a safe deposit box and minibar. The place is extremely clean and quaint. The hotel staff is very polite and helpful.
