“Excellent all rounder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We choose this hotel because of the tripadvisor reviews and also we got a reasonable deal. We were there for 2 nights at the beginning of February. Breakfast was buffet style with a wide variety of rolls, jams, cheeses, meats etc, plus egg and bacon, yogurts, fresh fruit etc - all very nice and fresh.
The room was clean and modern. Unfortunately, I think the bathrooms have been designed by a man as the lighting was dreadful - so dark it was impossible to put on makeup in the morning. We were there when the weather was around 2 degrees so were a little worried when we saw there was only a sheet on the bed - fortunately there was a blanket in the cupboard and surprisingly we were perfectly warm enough over night.
There's a great little pool and sun terrace on the roof and, had the weather been warm, it would have been a lovely place to relax in the sun for a few hours or have a evening drink before dinner.
If you like walking the hotel is in an ideal position for all the sights. Nothing was more than about 20 minutes away - in fact we visited most of the main attractions and didn't take the metro or taxi once. It's easy to get to the hotel from the airport - just get the A2 and it's the second stop. The stop is just a couple of minutes away - couldn't be easier. The staff at the hotel were very helpful especially the guy that checked us in who recommended a great tapas restaurant for our first lunch. We used tripadvisor to help us choose where to eat and we certainly were not disappointed. We really recommend Restaurant Etapes - here you can get a really wonderful lunch for Euro 15.50 for 3 courses! We also tried Osmosis who have a 3-course lunch menu for Euro 25 during the week but at the weekend it rises to Euro 45 and becomes a tasting menu - a little bit pretentious and not too welcoming staff but good food..
Altogether we had a fantastic break and would certainly return to Barcelona and stay at the Soho again.

“Trendy design hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed 5 days at the Soyo Hotel during our 5th Wedding Anniversary trip to Barcelona at the end of January 2012. We choose the hotel because of it's trendy looks and good location close -but not too close- to the action. It's easy to travel from and to the airport (we took the Aerobus which stops on the Gran Via - return ticket 9,15€ per person)

Getting places is easy: the nearest metro station is Urgell (almost right outside the door) but you can just walk to Plaza Catalunya (10-15mins) which is the starting point of la Rambla.

Breakfast room is nice and trendy as well, although a bit chilly during our winter stay. Choices were good enough for us, with meat, eggs, potatoes, croissants, etc.

Big bonus is the free wifi access in the hotel. If you didn't bring any internet phone or laptop you can still use the free internet access on the pcs in the multimedia room in the basement.

Our main luggage was lost and delivered a day late, but the hotel took care of the handling when it was finally delivered: they kept it in a safe storage until we returned from our day trip, and also on our last day they stored it for a few extra hours after checkout free of charge so we could have one last goodbye visit to Barcelona while waiting for our flight back home.

The hotel staff was great: our room's towels were changed and beds were made up every day, and the reception staff was eager to help with advice and recommendations for restaurants etc...

Minor issue: we had a room on the lowest floor on the street side where the traffic outside is very obvious. Took us a day or two to get used to this, so if you're a light sleeper you might request a room located in the center or back of the building. We were offered to move to a quieter room but we liked the brighter outside views and activity of the front room so we stayed and didn't regret it.

Room Tip: if you're a light sleeper you might request a room located in the center or back of the building...

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Soho hotel for 5 nights and have just returned. I chose the hotel based on other Trip Advisor reviews as neither my wife or I had ever been to the city before. The hotel is well placed for all main attractions such as La Rambla, the Marina, Olympic Park and the Joan Miro foundation. The hotel is right next to the Urgell metro station but if you are travelling in from the airport, take the Aerobus as it stops 1 minute walk from the hotel and is great value at €5,30.

The hotel was opened in 2006 and so is still in top condition. The rooms are very contemporary with a modern feel. Note that there is no facility to make tea/coffee in the rooms but the are vendors within 30 seconds of the hotel all selling drinks to take away. There also is no hotel bar but we didn't miss this at all as there are so many in the area.

The breakfast available is served buffet style and offers hot and cold food, fruit, cakes as well as more traditional fare.

We were on the 4th floor at the front and although we could hear the traffic it was never a problem. There was another couple who changed rooms as they strggled with noise so it might be worth asking for a room at the back of the hotel if you like complete silence.

The staff were really helpful and recommended some great places to eat and offered advice on travelling around the city etc...

This is a really nice hotel in a great location and you would be hard pushed to better for value and accessability.

Room Tip: Back of hotel for a quiet room.

“Excellent”

We stayed here for three nights in February 2012 and had a wonderful time. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and the hotel is beautifully decorated. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very modern.

The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk to La Rambla, but is just on the edge of the El Raval neighbourhood where there are lots of cool bars and restaurants to go to. All in all we had a great time here and would definitely stay again if we return to Barcelona.

“Good value for money”

Although the hotel is not in the heart of the live area of Barcelona (a good 20 minutes walk to Plaza Cataluna - Las Ramblas - Passeig de Gracia), the hotel has a good value for money:
- cosy, nice design, very clean
- room quite big (ours was "Urban"), very good bed
- breakfast more than ok (salty warm stuffs, cold stuffs, sweet stuffs, fresh fruits, Nespresso coffea...)
- metro just outside
- easy access fro airport
- very friendly and helpful staff (thanks to Alessio and Leo for their recommendations)
