First of all location: Barcelona is a large city with a central area that is very spread out. This hotel is central to quite a lot of tourist attractions - 15 minutes at a very leisurly meandering to the Sagrada Familia, a block away from La Casa Mila. It is also 1 block from Paseo Gracia - which is one of the main thoroughfares for shopping and traffic (bus 24 to the Parque Guell stops here). Also Rambla Catalunya is a continuation of the main Ramblas - where personally I would not like to stay as it is too crowded, noisy and not only full of tourists (which of course I am too) but full of the type of people who only exist to make money out of tourists. So as far as I am concerned the location of this hotel is almost perfect.
What it is not: it is not a full service hotel, with concierge, swimming pool, onsite parking, buffet breakfast, in-room dining options. If you want that there are plenty around, usually costing around 3 times the price that this place does.
What it is: basically a converted flat within an old apartment block (right on the corner of Rambla Catalunya and Provenca). I think there are 5 rooms in total. 3 are ensuite, the other 2 share a bathroom. 3 rooms overlook Rambla Catalunya (a little noisy but nothing ott for barcelona standards). 2 are at the back - and are a bit larger.
The staff are friendly and helpful - more so than you would find in larger more formal establishments. The breakfast is served in the room and is just enough to set you up for the day. OJ, choice of hot drinks and toast with jam and cheese.
Would I recommend to friends - yes if they didnt want a full service hotel
Would we go back - definately (unless we have a big win on the lottery and can afford one of the better barcelona hotels).
