I saw this hotel at its best. I got a very nice upgrade via Amex Platinum to a club level suite (i had booked a club level room). The room was good and the decor and in-room amenities were better than average (modern and artsy but yet functional and plush without being minimalist). A few lightbulbs were out but were quickly replaced when I complained. The club itself has a good amount of food on offer. Breakfast and the gym were pretty good. Views were quite nice from my seaside room. Dinner at the Bites restaurant was good. Meals in the restaurants were decent but not spectacular although Barcelona is not exactly my favorite when it comes to food. Concierge service was very good and the valets are particularly good at this hotel. The downside here is that it's not very close to a metro or to the city center; you need to take taxi rides of about 15 minutes and 8-10 Euros. If you want to get out of your hotel and walk somewhere in town, this is not the place to go. But it is a very nice address in Barcelona and excellent if you want to have the feel of the sea and a panorama of the city from the heights of the hotel. I suppose it also matters if you are into pools and being near the beach. Weather was cold and rainy the entirety of my visit so I didn't get a chance to see that part of things. I didn't get to the spa; I had limited time and it just didn't work out when I tried to get an appointment on short notice. Hotel is rather pricey but I think it was worth it, especially if you come in through something like Amex Platinum with all the extras included.

Soooo good, but always slightly flawed! Fantastic room, marred by unsightly stained furniture. Great location but noise levels at night [clubs, hospital next door] at the level of Manhattan. Very expensive given the pitiful state of the Euro to Sterling - walk over the street or down to the promenade for snacks and drinks. Great pool and bars and great staff, always helpful, however, housekeeping are on another planet! You can activate a do not disturb / make up room from inside the room - this means nothing to them! You can hang a do not disturb on the door - this means nothing to them! You can have your room unserviced for two days - this means nothing to them. You can book a late checkout - they send the housekeeping supervisor to evict you at 12 noon! Like I said, flawed luxury!
Great spas as well - these guys have no problems!
Great cigar bar - if a little expensive - and nice to be able to smoke in a bar.

We stayed in this hotel to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We stayed in a club level room with fantastic views across Barcelona, and access to the club lounge where you can get complimentary drinks (all day) and food/snacks (at set times). The hotel is very beautiful and has everything you could want, unfortunately it's all at extra cost! The staff are courteous, helpful and friendly. I'm puzzled by some of the other reviews about them being unhelpful and rude, this was not our experience during our 4 day stay. We ate in the hotel restaurants Enteca which we'd recommend and in the Arola which we wouldn't (but we're not fans of Tapas!)

Excellent and expensive sums it up!

1. after check-in I was waiting more than 30 minutes in my room for hotel personell to bring me my luggage
2. my rate included “romantic package on arrival” (wine & strawberry) but when I arrived there was no “romantic package” in my room. I did a call to reponsible hotel staff to remind and they promised to deliver package immideately. I was waiting more than 1 hour (for bottle of wine and 2 pieces of strawberry) but nobody came so we had to leave hotel w/o “romantic package on arrival”
3. At arrival reception told me that breakfast buffet is available untill 12:00 every day, but next day when I came to breakfast place at 11:32 breakfast staff told me breakfast is untill 11:30 and did not allow me to go in
4. Every day cleaning service knocked the door and opened it even when “do not disturb” plate was in place!
5. I went to the hotel bar to order and smoke cigar. First I was overchared with cigar in the bill more expensive than I actually took (I took Hoyo but was charged for Cohiba… Problem was fixed only after I asked for a hotel manager), secondly bar staff was looking for cigar knife about 40 minutes and finally told me that they do not have cigar knife in the bar and in all hotel as well so I was advised to cut cigar with kitchen knife…
6. my friend asked reception to buy special bunch of flowers from outside (he showed picture and reception confirmed possibility to take that bunch) but finally they just took regular flowers from reception bowl, put it in separate flower bowl and brought to our room. My friend said it’s absolutely not what he asked thus he will not pay for it. Hotel staff agreed but finally they included 139 EUR for that flowers in my bill and I paid for it as I was hurry to airport and had no time to check the bill carefully.
7. when i need any assistance from hotel reception it was almost not possible to get through to them by telephone: always no answer

an excellent, faultless, unforgettable experience!

the staff were incredibly helpful (pretty hot too!)... they gave us some great tips on going out. The room was fantastic and the view was GORGEOUS! we could see the whole of barcelona and the beachfront from our floor to ceiling window and thost blackout blinds that go up in the morning - now that is one brilliane wake up call!!!!!

the bathroom was great....i have never seen a bidet before and initially thought it was supposed to be for your feet until my friend politely corrected me!!!!

there was an audi conference going on when we were there - the hotel was rammed with brand new audis everywhere.....it looked like a bloody race track with cars flying around everywhere!

went up to the spa....which cost a bomb but that massage left me smiling like a cheshire cat. the steam room and hte jacuzzi were nice touches!

very pricey, but to be honest i don't regret it one bit, it was worth every penny! i'll definitely be back!
