“On route stop over only”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel on several occassions because it is so close to the motorway. The rooms are very clean and multi lingual staff very nice. It is on an industrial site. I have not found another restaurant within walking distance which is a problem. We have eaten in the Hotel restaurant which served a very poor quality menu of the day and on another occassion at the bar for a club sandwich. However this was so greasy that my husband could not eat it. We would never eat at the Hotel again. Also for the last few times I have noticed they have only put one toothbrush and comb etc out for emergency use. The last time we went we both forgot our toothbrush, when we asked for another at reception they could not find one for us - this did spoil our on route over night stay. I did complete the 'official' complaint form which they would do anything to stop this. They originally told me to email the company but this is not the same. If you have a complaint ensure you ask for the Official Complaint Book. I was offered a free breakfast if I did not complain but declined it.

They do have an underground car park for under 5 euros a night which I understand is big enough to take a van or trailer inside. I did not use this as outside parking appears to be safe.

We would use the Hotel again for an over night stay and would not eat in the restaurant or bar. we will of course ensure we both have our own toothbrush.

Room Tip: Ensure you have a NON smoking room. I did search on line for the cheapest price and used a company...

“Great parking, Very good hotel, strange location but worth the stay”

Situated in an industrial estate just outside of town might make you think you've arrived at the wrong place however it is really convenient to a city with limited parking and offers good safe parking (we were on motorbikes). Free wi-fi, comforatble rooms, good reception and more than adequate bar and restaurant faciliteis coupled with a substantial buffet breakfast make this an ideal stop to visit Salamance which is truly an amazing palce.

“A 2 Night Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We stopped here for 2 nights on our way down to the south of Spain and onto Portugal. The Hotel was very easy to find and on arrival we found the Desk Reception excellent and extremely helpful. Clearly a lot of Spanish people use this Hotel for stop overs and meetings which is a plus point when you think about this fact. The Retired Travellers Wife speaks some Spanish and that goes a long way, but that being said, they are very friendly and welcoming. We had booked a Premium Room and it was a very high standard, good bed, facilities and a little extra like a night cap and Taps delivered to your room whilst you were out on your first evening along with a welcome note. We ate in the Hotel Bar area and then on the second night the Restuarant. Both were very pleasing and the food was good. We also made use of the Hotel's secure car park, which is excellent and you know your car is shut away. It is under 5 Euro's a night for this, but worth it although I am sure you can park outside or on the road area with no issues. The Hotel reception as we say are very good and were somewhat concerned when we said we wanted to walk into the centre. This Hotel has been commented upon for this issue and ths staff do seem concerned if you try to walk along the main road and you need to get over crash barriers etc and they do not advise it. HOWEVER, TOP TIP if you like walking. Leave the Hotel main entrance and turn left into the Industrial Estate. ( Do not confuse this with an English one, it ias really a more pleasant area than one of those !!!) Walk 400 meters to a small park area with seating and there on your left is a foot bridge over the main road. Cross over, walk 400 meters up the other side and you are then at the roundabout on the best side of the main road for walking in. Use the footpaths to walk down to the Roman Bridge on the left side ( you need only cross this road and it is not very difficult) and after 50 minutes you are in the Old City area. We took our time, taking photos along the route, so this is really a stolling speed. So to cap it all, it's a great hotel to stay for a visit to Salamanca and if you like walking, it's a first rate hotel for doing so. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Book a Premium Room, great view we had of the Cathedral and old City, but the Room is very good

“Great Hotel for Drivers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Started search of Salamanca looking for hotels with free parking, and Montalvo popped up. Easy to find from the autovia. In an industrial area, so sceptical when driving in, but really surprised upon arrival. Courteous, multi-language staff, clean facilities, roomy lounge and bar. Room was big and had good view of the city. A/C worked well during their mid-Sept heatwave. Too far to walk into historic district, but a straight shot in by car and easy to find public parking garage near river. Hotel had a restaurant with decent menu and prices, but ended up eating in near plaza mayor. Very nice wine store/distributor around the corner with a huge selection of quality wine.

Room Tip: Ask for view of city - Cathedral lights up at night

“Overnight stay for drive down to Andelucia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

Booked this hotel directly thru the solmelia website as the tryp hotel website although claiming to be secure did not show HTTPS in browser. Hotel is a good 3star+ almost a 4 star with a little work.

The receptionist was efficient able to speak in french, english and of course spanish and was very helpful. We parked in the private underground 'security camera' carpark only approx 5euros per day (cheap for hotels). We were kindly upgrade to a premium room (better beds) by the director Silverio and the supplement would be well worth paying as we had a great nights sleep in the new concept beds. Room was pleasantly appointed, good size bathroom and quality bathroom products & amenities supplied.

Room has a fridge, unfortunately no tea/coffee making equipment (need this for 4 star), excellent sound insulation and double glazing as there was a wedding taking place in the hotel and we heard zero noise even with the music being played.

Air conditioning needs to be reviewed/upgraded as it struggled to cool the room sufficiently (temp outside 34°c) and we woke upto odeurs of the kitchen cooking bread and pastries for breakfast (some would like this , i don't) (another 4 star sticking point).

Internet free and great speed in room.

We had an excellent evening meal in the hotel (great service even with a wedding dinner/cocktail taking place) and a very good spread of breakfast buffet.

I will definitely consider coming back to this hotel in the future and hope they make the little improvements to gain the 4 stars they will surely deserver.

PS There is a sauna but no pool which would be an excellent addition.
